The Blue Bloods legacy lives on but one familiar face won’t be making the leap to its highly anticipated spin-off, Boston Blue.
While Donnie Wahlberg is officially returning as fan-favorite Detective Danny Reagan, his on-screen son Sean Reagan will also appear — with a brand new actor in the role. After portraying Sean for all 14 seasons of the original series, Andrew Terraciano will not return. Instead, the part has been recast with Mika Amonsen, best known for his roles in Suits, Reacher, and Pachinko.
The reason behind the recasting has not been publicly revealed, and Terraciano has yet to comment on the change. However, when Blue Bloods wrapped filming in 2024, he shared a heartfelt farewell on social media that now feels even more meaningful “After 15 years, ‘family’ isn’t a big enough word for all of the people at Blue Bloods that have changed me,” he wrote. “I am unbelievably grateful to every single person that has guided me and grown with me.”
“Sean Reagan, I let you go,” he ended his tribute a line that now marks the closing of a major chapter for longtime fans.
Blue Bloods was officially canceled by CBS in 2024 after a 14-season run, sparking an outcry from both cast and fans. But just two months later, the network announced Boston Blue, an all-new extension of the Reagan family story.
In the spin-off, Danny Reagan relocates to Boston and joins the Boston Police Department, where he works alongside new partner Detective Lena Silver (played by Sonequa Martin-Green). Meanwhile, Sean begins his journey as a rookie patrolman, continuing the family legacy — but on his own terms.
“Sean relocated to Boston to start a new chapter… He committed himself to pursuing his family’s legacy, but wanted to do so on his own terms,” CBS shared in a statement. “Danny’s decision to stay in Boston gives this father and son duo a chance to reconnect on a deeper level.”
The show, written by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, is shaping up to be more than just a continuation, it’s a fresh start wrapped in legacy, emotion, and unanswered questions. And with a new Sean Reagan, fans can expect familiar bonds, but through a different lens.
