Donnie Wahlberg is back in action and this time, he’s trading New York for Boston. CBS has officially announced Boston Blue, the highly anticipated Blue Bloods spinoff set to premiere this fall.
Wahlberg will reprise his fan-favorite role as Detective Danny Reagan in the new series, which continues the legacy of Blue Bloods following its 14-season run that ended in December 2024.
What Is The Blue Bloods Spinoff, Boston Blue About?
Boston Blue follows Danny Reagan as he transfers to the Boston Police Department and is partnered with Detective Lena Silver, played by Star Trek: Discovery alum Sonequa Martin-Green. Lena hails from a prominent Boston law enforcement family, setting the stage for a new family dynamic while still honoring the Reagan legacy.
Although the reason for Danny’s move from New York is still unclear, CBS has teased that his story will stay emotionally connected to his roots—even as new characters and city politics come into play.

The cast of the Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue is stacked with familiar talent and fresh faces: Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan, Sonequa Martin-Green as Detective Lena Silver, Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters, the Silver family patriarch, Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Boston’s police superintendent
Wahlberg hinted that Boston Blue would include “connective tissue” to the original Blue Bloods and even teased a future for Danny’s relationship with Detective Maria Baez, which left off with a romantic spark in the finale.
