‘Boston Blue’ Begins: Donnie Wahlberg shares cryptic note that has fans buzzing

Donnie Wahlberg isn’t slowing down one bit after the end of Blue Bloods. Since the series wrapped in December, he’s been lighting up Las Vegas with New Kids on the Block’s residency but now, all eyes are on his return to the small screen.

With the NKOTB residency on pause until November, Donnie just kicked off a brand-new chapter: filming for the highly anticipated Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, officially began on July 7.

And in true Wahlberg fashion, he’s already got fans buzzing.
On his Instagram Stories, Donnie dropped a behind-the-scenes photo from the cast’s first table read but it was far from an ordinary post. Captioning the image with: “Boston Blue cast read through. Can’t show you everything (or every one).” He set off a wave of speculation about who else might be joining the cast.

Of course, Wahlberg is back as Detective Danny Reagan, and although CBS has confirmed several new names including Mika Amonsen, Sonequa Martin-Green, Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, Gloria Reuben, and Ernie Hudson longtime fans are still holding out hope for surprise appearances from original Blue Bloods stars.

In another post, Donnie shared a video of himself heading to set, adding a heartfelt caption: “So thankful for another day on this planet and for another opportunity to play this guy! Day One for Danny Reagan – again! Let’s get to work! ❤️🙏🏼💙”

So, what exactly is Wahlberg hiding? Is a certain mustached NYPD commissioner making a cameo? 👀
We’ll have to wait and see but the countdown is officially on. CBS has just confirmed that Boston Blue will premiere on Friday, October 17.

Mark your calendars. Danny Reagan’s story isn’t over — it’s just getting a bold new beginning.
