BLUE BLOODS STARS ‘SAD’ SERIES IS ENDING: ‘CREATED SUCH A FAMILY’

American police drama BLUE BLOODS is coming to an end with its fourteenth season, and stars Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan explain how leaving the show feels like saying goodbye to family.

“I think it’s more saying goodbye to the people behind the character. We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew—most of the crew’s been with us for 14 years, so we’ve been through a lot of weddings, births, deaths, and everything. We’ve been through it all with each other,” Moynahan said.

She told Drew Barrymore that she’s feeling “more upset and sad” about the show ending.

Wahlberg, a long-time friend of Moynahan, shared how he supported her when others doubted her ability to direct an episode of the show.

“I don’t remember who it was so I’m not throwing anyone under the bus, but somebody came to me early on, someone said, ‘Oh, Bridget wants to direct,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, and? She’s gonna do it, right? It was like, do you think there’s anything that she can’t do? She’s been lights out, phenomenal,” he said.

BLUE BLOODS’ cancellation was announced last November.

“BLUE BLOODS will forever be a beloved part of CBS’s legacy,” said Amy Reisenbach, the president of CBS Entertainment, and David Stapf, president of CBS Studios, in a joint statement. “It ruled Friday nights with unprecedented dominance since its premiere and established itself as a pillar of our winning lineup with an exceptionally devoted fan base.”

The Truth About The Family Meals On Blue Bloods

Fans and stars alike are hoping the show will continue.

Movieguide® reported:

BLUE BLOODS star Donnie Wahlberg is hinting that the hit show might not end after Season 14.

“Potentially,” Wahlberg teased when asked if Season 14 is BLUE BLOOD’s last. “There are rumblings, so we’ll see what happens.”

There’s also been a fan-led campaign to save the show.

Last year, Movieguide® reported on Wahlberg’s gratitude for the show’s longevity while learning how to live in the present.

“I’m an optimist,” the actor told Us Weekly. “I try to take every episode as it comes. I really do. I think it’s part of why I’ve enjoyed myself on the show for 13 years.” Wahlberg continued, “One of the things I’ve done is I try to just stay very present in each episode and take each script that comes my way and say, ‘Okay, what’s going to happen now? You know, what am I doing this week?’ And kind of find the journey in that particular episode and not get caught up in what’s going to happen next year, what’s going to happen in two years.”

BLUE BLOODS airs on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
