His co-star Bridget Moynahan also shared her thoughts on having to say goodbye to the show
BLUE Bloods actor Donnie Wahlberg has blasted CBS’ decision to cancel the long-running police drama.
The series, which is currently in its 14th and final season, was axed by the network in November.
On Tuesday, Donnie and his co-star Bridget Moynahan visited The Drew Barrymore Show to discuss the remaining episodes of Blue Bloods.
The show first premiered in 2010 and followed the Reagans, a family of law enforcement officials in New York City.
Donnie plays Detective Danny Reagan, while Bridget portrays his sister Erin, a bureau chief in the District Attorney’s Office.
Although the show was canceled a few months ago, the cast members are still coming to terms with the beloved drama soon coming to an end.
Drew Barrymore asked the stars about it all during their recent appearance on her talk show.
“I think everyone’s really upset and sad, but also happy and satiated,” the host asked them.
“More upset and sad, more upset and sad,” Donnie quickly admitted.
Sitting next to him, Bridget could be heard agreeing with her co-star.
The final season has been split into two parts – with the Part 1 finale airing on May 17 and the last batch of episodes to begin airing on CBS in the fall.
Talk show co-host Ross Mathews asked the actors to elaborate on what emotions they’re dealing with while “saying goodbye to these characters” after almost 15 years.
Drew added that it seemed the Blue Bloods cast members were almost like a family in real life, instead of only onscreen.
“I think it’s more saying goodbye to the people behind the characters,” Bridget shared. “We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew.”
“Most of the crew’s been with us for 14 years, so we’ve been through a lot of weddings, births, deaths, and everything,” she added. “We’ve been through it all with each other.”
OUTCRY FAN
The stars of the show aren’t the only ones not quite ready to let go.
Fans are begging CBS to change its mind and reverse the cancellation and film another season of Blue Bloods.
“I know all good things must come to an end, just not yet, please,” wrote one upset fan on an online forum.
“Looks like the entire cast wants more,” a second fan said another.
“I hope CBS reconsiders and gives them a full season,” the user added. Tom [Selleck], who plays Commissioner Frank Reagan] is willing to do anything.”
This fan appeared to be referencing a recent USA Today interview with Tom, who is also an executive producer on the drama.
DISAPPOINTED STARS
The outlet reported that he didn’t want to discuss much about having to say goodbye to the show.
Instead, he spoke about wanting the show to continue on past its 14th season, despite its cancellation.
“They say it’s an eight-episode wind-down, and I say, ‘We’ll see,’” Tom said.
“Look, I’ll do whatever is best for the whole situation, but I love this show, obviously,” he added. “And I think CBS is going to end up being very conflicted with their present plans.”
The actor said he knows there are “a lot of very upset people out there” and that he and everyone else will just have to “see what happens.
Blue Bloods airs on CBS on Fridays at 10 pm.
