The Blue Bloods cast reveals their family recipes and compiles them into a cookbook. But Bridget Moynahan, who plays Erin Reagan, had an unusual Christmas Eve meal.
There’s a cookbook about ‘Blue Bloods.’
Each episode features the Reagan family gathered around the dinner table. They keep up with their lives and this custom has a touching origin.
Jamie (Will Estes) explains to Eddie (Vanessa Ray) that they are having dinner “because my grandmother grew up poor in a small town in Ireland.” He was the eldest of 12 children and never had enough food. She moved to New York to make money. When she met my grandfather, she promised herself that they would always have enough to eat. Every week, family dinners are her proud way of showing that off.”
Moynahan decided to publish the Blue Bloods Cookbook. Several actors contributed recipes to the book.
“Each member of the cast came up with a recipe,” Moynahan told CBS. “The good thing about the cast is that everyone eats differently. Will [Estes] is a vegetarian. His recipe is completely different from everyone else’s… it’s more like a meat and potatoes cookbook. Tom Selleck’s wife contributed a delicious recipe for Shepherd’s Pie. It’s interesting to see what people grew up with.”
Swedish meatballs are her go-to Christmas recipe.
Bridget Moynahan is preparing a special Christmas Eve dish that the Reagan family is sure to love!
Most families celebrate the holiday with ham, but the star’s family eats a different type of meat. On Christmas Eve, the Moynahan family loves meatballs.
1 pound of ground beef and 1/4 pound of ground pork are used in the recipe to make 15 meatballs. Finally, it can come with egg noodles, rice, toast or mashed potatoes. The recipe is in Moynahan’s cookbook but it has also been published online.
A ham recipe is also included in the cookbook.
If you don’t want to bring Moynahan’s meals to your Christmas table, the book also includes recipes traditionally associated with the festive season. There is a glazed ham recipe.
“We once had glazed ham for dinner, which inspired the book,” Moynahan told CBS. “It’s a sweet and savory combination.” The glazed ham was very crispy. In between takes, we couldn’t stop pulling the crispy bits out.”
The cast discussed eating in meal sequences at specific times. So it’s no surprise that they enjoyed some ham while filming.
