Billie Lourd Shares Touching Tribute to Carrie Fisher Seven Years After Star Wars Legend’s Death
Seven years after her death, Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher is remembered by her daughter, Billie Lourd.
Billie Lourd paid tribute to late mother Carrie Fisher on the seventh anniversary of the beloved Star Wars legend’s death.
Revered for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, Fisher died on Dec. 27, 2016. Seven years to the day later, Lourd shared an image on Instagram of herself as a young girl at the beach with Fisher. Lourd, who appeared with her mother in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, also wrote a message of tribute while opening up about how each year has her experiencing her ongoing grief in a different way. She added how she takes comfort knowing that her mother is still with her in spirit, though she now “lives in the stars.”
Carrie Fisher Remembered by Co-Star of Final Film: ‘She’s an Icon’
Rita Ora reflects on co-starring with Carrie Fisher in the Hollywood legend’s final movie Wonderwell.
“It has been 7 years since my mom died (but who’s counting?? Me I guess?),” the message reads. “Every anniversary brings a different iteration of my grief. Some infuse me with rage, some make me cry all day long, some make me feel dissociated and empty, some make me feel nothing, some make me feel guilty for feeling nothing, and some make me feel all of those things all at once. This year when I woke up I felt grateful – or ‘griefull’ if you will.”
Lourd continued, “Grief has infused my life with a sense of appreciation I had never had before. It makes me soak up every moment of joy as if it were my last. Today I was holding my daughter while she was napping in my arms and my eyes welled up with tears of joy. I laughed at myself then cried more cause I was laughing. I felt my mombys presence like the warmth of the sun on your skin on a hot summer day. The kind of warmth where you unknowingly close your eyes and take a slow breath through your nose and grin.”
Though Carrie Fisher will always be remembered for her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars, her true legacy lies in her work behind the scenes.
“I miss her every day but the cliche is also true – she is with me every day – she infuses my joyful moments with even more joy,” Lourd concluded. “As I tell my son, she lives in the stars – and she damn sure makes my life sparkle. Sending my love to all my griefers out there. And hoping everyone can feel a little sparkle of griefull among all the feelings grief inevitably bring.”
Fisher continues to be celebrated seven years after her passing. Earlier in 2023, she was posthumously inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Lourd accepted the honor on her late mother’s behalf, joined at the ceremony by Mark Hamill, Fisher’s longtime Star Wars co-star. For many fans, the loss of Fisher continues to sting, and there are many fans on social media posting their own tributes as well.
Fisher’s final movie was also released earlier in 2023 after spending years in post-production. Called Wonderwell, the film was released in theaters on June 23 before getting a digital release. Fisher has completed her work on the movie just weeks before her passing.
