Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar addresses spin-off return possibility

The Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar has addressed a possible return in the Georgie Cooper spin-off.

This second offshoot from the beloved sitcom was announced last month. It brings back Young Sheldon’s Montana Jordan as Sheldon’s brother Georgie, and Emily Osment as Georgie’s partner Mandy McAllister.

Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre is also involved in the new spin-off, along with Young Sheldon executive producers Steven Molaro and Steve Holland.

“To be honest, I have not heard anything about this other than what the media has spun out,” said Nayyar, who played Raj in the original series, during an interview with TVLine.

“I’m not entirely sure what it’s about […] it feels a little too soon. Can you do a [revival] only four years after your show ends? That’s not a reunion show; that’s just another season.”

However, Nayyar isn’t completely against reprising his role as astrophysicist Raj.

“If [the spin-off] were to happen, we’ll see what the universe says,” he added.

A year after Big Bang ended, Nayyar told Metro how “safe” he found its working environment, explaining: “It was probably one of the only places in the entire universe where I felt absolutely free to be myself without any kind of outside influence.
“Every day on that set was being at home… It’s not just [that] I miss the actors. I miss all of the crew, I miss all of the writers, I miss it. It was such a happy place, always so happy!

“I probably don’t miss playing the character that much anymore,” he conceded. “You know what I mean?

“I did so much of it and got it out of my system. But I really miss being in front of the [live] audience.”
