The actress says the diagnosis came as a surprise: “I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life.”
Actress and comedian Kate Micucci revealed that she has been diagnosed with lung cancer.
The Big Bang Theory star, 43, shared a video on TikTok (or, as she aptly called it, SickTok) from the hospital and said she underwent surgery. She appeared in good spirits and assured followers that she was “all good,” noting that doctors “caught it really early.”
“I had lung cancer surgery yesterday,” Micucci said. “It’s really weird because I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life so uh, you know, it was a surprise. But I guess it happens and so the greatest news is they caught it early, they got it out — I’m all good.”
“It’s been a little bit of a trip,” she added, “and I’ll probably be moving slow for a few weeks, but then I’ll be back at it.”
The actress, who played Lucy, a love interest of Kunal Nayyar’s Raj on the CBS sitcom, also shared a clip of her walking through the halls of the hospital and a photo of her resting in the TikTok.
According to the American Cancer Society, exposure to radon, secondhand smoke, and air pollution are some of the factors that can lead to lung cancer for people who do not smoke. Kathy Griffin and the late Dustin Diamond are among the celebrities who’ve had lung cancer despite being non-smokers.
Micucci’s other credits include films The Little Hours, The Last Laugh, and When in Rome, and the series Raising Hope, Scrubs, and Garfunkel and Oates. She’s also done voiceover work on American Dad!, Central Park, Bob’s Burgers, and DuckTales.
