Big Bang Theory Spinoff Cast Gathers for First Table Read

The cast of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady’s new Big Bang Theory spinoff, gathers for the first time. Almost six years since The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019, the nerd-centric sitcom is finally getting a follow-up show that is separate from its previous offshoots on CBS. As successful as Young Sheldon was, it took a different approach to the universe and has charted its own path with its own spinoff, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Elsewhere, fans will be treated to something more similar to The Big Bang Theory with Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.

John Ross Bowie, who plays Barry Kripke, has shared an adorable ensemble photo during the first table read for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Joining him in the image are his co-stars Kevin Sussman (Stuart), Lauren Lapkus (Denise), and Brian Posehn (Bert Kibbler). Only recently did the Big Bang Theory spinoff sequel confirm its title after being in development for a while. Check out the image below:

What Stuart Fails To Save The Universe Means For Big Bang Theory Fans
It Continues The Big Bang Theory’s Focus On Friend Groups

Young Sheldon may have ended, but that part of the franchise still thrives with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage taking over its CBS timeslot on Thursday nights. Despite starting off as an origin story for Jim Parsons’ Sheldon, however, the seven-season spinoff eventually became a family show towards its end, while its direct follow-up is arguably the completion of its storytelling transition. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, on the other hand, keeps The Big Bang Theory’s focus on friendship and found community alive by following a new set of friends in California.

Beyond that, the characters of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe are already fully established players in the franchise. The Big Bang Theory didn’t get to spend that much time with them, considering that the sitcom’s focal point was the Pasadena gang, but viewers are aware of what to expect from Stuart, Kripke, Denise, and Bert. This doesn’t mean that the new series will be boring. Instead, it’s more of an advantage that they are already recognizable, because then Lorre and Prady’s story for the Big Bang Theory spinoff can immediately start exploring their shenanigans.

Our Take On Stuart Fails To Save The Universe’s Development
Stuart Fails To Save The Universe Is Moving Quickly

News of another Big Bang Theory spinoff pre-dated the announcement of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. For a while, Lorre was very coy about giving out any kind of information about what the show might be about, claiming that the project was still in its very early stages. The producer’s focus then turned to wrapping up Young Sheldon and kickstarting the Cooper family’s new life in Texas via Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which has been now ongoing for months. Therefore, this barrage of development updates for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is quite surprising.

While Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is focusing on an entirely different friend group, their established connection to Sheldon, Leonard, and the rest allows the show to offer new updates about them that the prequels couldn’t.

That isn’t a bad thing, however. While it has been a while since The Big Bang Theory wrapped up its run, the sitcom remains very popular. There’s continued interest in learning what the Pasadena gang may be up to. While Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is focusing on an entirely different friend group, their established connection to Sheldon, Leonard, and the rest allows the show to offer new updates about them that the prequels couldn’t.
