Across more than 20 years, the NCIS franchise has introduced many memorable characters — but few have been as adored as Marty Deeks. When NCIS: Los Angeles ended in 2023, viewers had to bid farewell to the sharp-witted, big-hearted agent portrayed by Eric Christian Olsen. And although fans have long held out hope for Deeks to pop up elsewhere in the franchise, Olsen has recently tempered those expectations — at least for the foreseeable future.

First appearing as a guest star in Season 1, Deeks was introduced as an undercover LAPD detective whose investigation into a drug-smuggling ring crossed paths with Sam Hanna’s (LL Cool J). His instant chemistry with the team — especially with Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) — quickly made him a standout. By Season 2, he had earned a full-time spot, and from there, his character only grew more beloved.
Deeks became a cornerstone of the series, balancing intense missions with humor, warmth, and emotional depth. His evolution from rugged lone wolf to devoted husband and trusted teammate helped cement his legacy as one of the franchise’s most iconic characters.
So it’s no surprise that fans have been eager to see Deeks return in some capacity — whether in NCIS, NCIS: Hawai’i, or a possible future spin-off. But according to Olsen himself, that’s not something currently in the works. While he expressed deep appreciation for the role and the fans who supported him, he confirmed that he has no immediate plans to revisit the character.
It’s a bittersweet update for longtime viewers hoping for another chapter in Deeks’ story. For now, Marty Deeks remains an unforgettable part of NCIS: Los Angeles history — even if his badge stays officially retired.
