Behind the Scenes: Flower and Gabe’s Hilarious Chemistry in Ghosts Season 5!

The latest episode of Ghosts is truly like no other, celebrating the global 4/20 holiday, which also sees our favorite hippie, Flower (Sheila Carrasco), in her element. “I Know What You Did Thirty-Seven Summers Ago” aired on CBS less than twenty-four hours ago and in it, Jay’s (Utkarsh Ambudkar) employee Gabe (Dustin Ybarra) who marks the special day by smoking pot in his car after being talked to about his marijuana use, is eventually revealed to have an impact on the other spirits at Woodstone, beginning with Pete (Richie Moriarty) who receives a contact high.

Unsurprisingly, Flower encourages Pete to become more relaxed, basking in the experience, and he takes her word for it. Meanwhile, nothing of significance happens between the permanently high ghost and fellow stoner Gabe. However, Carrasco hints to TV Insider that there may be room for even more shenanigans for Gabe in Ghosts, but with her character in particular.

“It’s totally been something we’ve been talking about for fun on set, especially with Flower. What does it mean if Flower walks through Gabe? Gabe is a great character, and I’m just so glad that there’s someone else on the property who’s also under that kind of influence and a true stoner. He celebrates 4/20 every day, so this day is not really that different, but it is like Christmas for Flower and Gabe. It’s a really fun energy.”

Will There Be More of Gabe in ‘Ghosts’?

For those who missed Ghosts Season 4, Episode 20 and are wondering how exactly Pete finds himself zonked, it was quite the experience. After Jay cautions Gabe about his marijuana use, given that it was April 20, also 4/20, the official stoner holiday, the chef goes on to smoke pot in his car, and Pete takes it upon himself to put Gabe in check, ultimately catching him in the act. Too bad the socially awkward ghost smells the smoke and becomes high himself, indicating that spirits can also enjoy the drug. As for whether there will be more of Gabe on screen in future seasons, Carrasco teased the possibility, saying:

“Dustin Ybarra, who plays Gabe, is fantastic to play with. He hasn’t gotten to do too much yet, but you can tell there’s just a lot of comedy there for us to mine. So I think there’s going to be a lot more in the future for Flower and Gabe.”
