Bazinga! The Big Bang Theory May Return With a New Chapter md14

The Big Bang Theory universe spans decades of Sheldon Cooper’s life, but the timeline can sometimes feel a little blurry. That’s partly because the original sitcom was never designed with a prequel in mind.

When Young Sheldon debuted, it introduced audiences to Sheldon’s childhood in early-1990s Texas. But rather than locking the story into exact dates, the creators kept things intentionally flexible. There is one notable exception, though: the death of legendary science fiction author Isaac Asimov.

In a season 5 episode, Sheldon learns about Asimov’s passing on April 6, 1992, and reacts with genuine heartbreak. The moment underscores how much the young prodigy admired the writer behind classics like Foundation and I, Robot.

According to co-creator Steve Molaro, the writers prefer to keep the timeline loose because Sheldon is narrating the story from memory as an adult. Like anyone recalling childhood events, his perspective may not always line up perfectly with exact dates.

Even so, Asimov’s death provides one of the clearest historical markers in the entire franchise timeline.
