The end of FBI: Most Wanted brought closure for the characters. As Remy retired, a new leader for the Fugitive Task Force was announced, and that was Sheryll Barnes. It was only natural, right? After all, we all wanted to see that happen.
Sadly, we now don’t get to see Barnes in charge, because FBI: Most Wanted season 7 isn’t happening. So, what could have been had the show not been canceled? What if it’s somehow saved? What could happen based on the way the series ended?
Barnes wasn’t supposed to take over the Fugitive Task Force in FBI: Most Wanted season 6
Had the series not been canceled, we wouldn’t have had the ending to FBI: Most Wanted that we did get. Remy wouldn’t have retired, and that would have meant Barnes wouldn’t have become the leader of the team. Could that have meant that she would have taken the DC position instead?
It’s hard to say, but probably not. After all, that would have mean the show would have lost another OG cast member. It only has two left! So, we could have seen a storyline set up with Barnes looking at it, but realizing that it wasn’t for her. Maybe FBI: Most Wanted season 7 could have seen her take the job and realize that it wasn’t for her, so she went back to Remy to see if her current position was still available.
The way FBI: Most Wanted season 6 was being written, it did seem like Barnes was looking at leaving. It’s an interview with TV Insider that suggests she wouldn’t have gone for it in the end.
If FBI: Most Wanted is saved now, what could it mean for Barnes?
Of course, the FBI: Most Wanted series finale did see Barnes take over the role as leader of the team. If the series was suddenly saved, it would mean this storyline had to keep going. Remy would still retire, and Barnes would lead the team.
She’d need to welcome a new team member in, and then she’s need to cement her leadership style. The great thing about Barnes is that she already had the respect and loyalty of the team, and she had taken the lead in the past. This could have allowed for a seamless transition into the role.
However, I would have also liked to see more of her figuring out who she is as a mom when she’s so far away from her kids, though. I would expect to see some sort of guilt, considering she could have been there more, and she’s chosen to stay away. Moms make sacrifices, and I can’t get behind Barnes not making this one.
