A former Bachelorette star claims Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s divorce puts a ‘stain’ on Bachelor Nation.
A former Bachelorette star is claiming that Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s divorce paints a stain over the entire Bachelor Nation.
The couple have only been married for three months, but last week they announced on Good Morning America their decision to divorce.
Gerry and Theresa cited distance as their main issue and the unwillingness to move from their respective states – Gerry in Indiana and Theresa in New Jersey.
Everyone has given their opinions on the bombshell divorce since the announcement but fans were the most angry over the split, calling the first season of the ABC show a “waste of time” because of it.
Former Bachelor Nation stars have also given their two cents, including Golden Bachelor contestant Maria Trice, who has claimed she “dodged a bullet,” fan-favorite Susan Noles, who tried to explain what happened between the pair, and Faith Martin, who just wants to see the couple happy.
However Tyler Cameron has given one of the most brutal opinions about the divorce.
The Bachelorette star didn’t hold back his thoughts on the scandal during an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen aired on April 18.
“Shame, shame, shame,” he declared. “Because they’re supposed to be setting the standard of what we’re supposed to find. And they didn’t make it happen. Canceled.”
Cameron then touched on the impact of the divorce on the franchise’s image, saying it “put a stain on love and Bachelor Nation because it was the most wholesome. And then they just pulled the rug right out from under us.”
The former model also speculated on the reasons behind the split, hinting at a clash of wills: “Gerry and Theresa don’t want to change their ways. Like it’s just two stubborn old people, you know? And when you get older you get more stubborn.”
Gerry and Theresa’s divorce isn’t only affecting the legacy of their show, but is expected to also have a negative impact on the upcoming Golden Bachelorette.
Cameron isn’t the only Bachelor Nation star who thinks the divorce has tarnished the franchise.
Speaking to The Mirror US, Bachelor in Paradise alums Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon, who married in 2019, shared fears that the divorce was going to “tarnish” the new series.
“I don’t know what it is, I can’t put my finger on it. I just know that internally,” Ashley said.
“Whoever the woman Bachelorette is, may she have a very successful marriage or whatever she wants to come from it,” she added.
She also expressed doubt over the reason that has been given for the split – the pair explained that they couldn’t figure out where to live together, and couldn’t overcome the distance between their homes in Indiana and New Jersey.
Meanwhile, Jared shared that he felt the couple’s mistakes came not only from how quickly they got married, but also the fact that they gave a reason.
“They should just never have given an excuse,” he said. “They should have been like, ‘Listen it didn’t work out. We thought it would, we made a mistake’.
“It’s very interesting because it happened so fast. Obviously, they were not in that much love. And then they got married when they shouldn’t have because they had a televised wedding and they saw a cool opportunity.”
