Ashley Iaconetti Haibon reflected on Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s quick split and suggested they discovered a mutual “ick” post-show.
Bachelor alum, Ashley Iaconetti Haibon, like many fans of Bachelor Nation, is puzzled by the sudden end of Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s marriage.
The Golden Bachelor couple called it quits just three months after their televised ABC wedding special.
Now, Ashley, 36, has shared her thoughts on the swift downturn of the couple’s relationship.
“I think they just got to know each other better and I think they got the ick from one another,” she revealed in an interview with Hollywood Life. “I think it was mutual ick too.”
The sparks between Gerry and Theresa were undeniable on The Golden Bachelor. But Ashley suspects that realities outside the show’s bubble contributed to their change of heart.
Ashley offered insight into the timing and dynamics that might have influenced Gerry and Theresa’s separation.
“The span of time was so short,” she pointed out, noting the rapid pace from filming in late August to early October.
After Golden Bachelor filming concluded, the couple had to remain apart publicly until the show’s finale aired at the end of November 2023 to avoid spoilers.
Their wedding was broadcast live on January 4, 2024.
This arrangement, Ashley suggests, gave them little time to genuinely coexist off-camera before making their marriage official.
“They had four weeks to literally live in the same space together before getting married and I just think that was crazy,” Ashley commented, “And I think that you can develop an ick far after four weeks.”
On April 12, Gerry, 72, officially filed for divorce from Theresa, 70, in Petersburg, Indiana, where he resides.
Theresa, who lives in New Jersey, and Gerry cited “irretrievable breakdown” as the reason for their separation. Many fans suspected that their living situations may have played a role in their split.
Gerry explained: “Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations. We’ve looked closely at our living situations and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s time for us to dissolve our marriage…we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.”
Despite their situation, Bachelor Nation has seen successes, such as Ashley and her husband Jared Haibon, who met on Bachelor in Paradise and married in 2019.
The couple is excitedly expecting their second child later this year.
