Apple TV+ Nabs Bridgerton Breakout for Sexy James Bond-Inspired Love Story

One of Bridgerton’s biggest breakout stars is developing an adaptation of a bestselling romance that draws influence from James Bond. Since its debut in 2020, Bridgerton has become one of the world’s most popular shows, attracting a massive audience on Netflix. Bridgerton season 4 is underway, but actors who have exited the show have other projects in the works.

Despite appearing in just one season, Regé-Jean Page has been one of the biggest breakout stars from the series. Page’s next project is for Apple TV+, where he’s producing and planning to star in an adaptation of Funny You Should Ask (via Deadline). The novel, written by Elissa Sussman, explores the romantic connection between a young journalist and a Hollywood heartthrob.

In the world of the novel, the aforementioned Hollywood heartthrob is the actor playing James Bond. This creates an interesting meta element for the series, as Regé-Jean Page has been one of the most popular fan-castings for the real-life role of James Bond over the past half-decade.

What Regé-Jean Page’s New Apple TV+ Show Means
Regé-Jean Page Is Sticking To His Guns

For an actor like Regé-Jean Page, who was launched into international fame for playing a heartthrob in a romance series, remaining in the genre is a surefire method to success. Funny You Should Ask is also an acclaimed and popular novel, compared to Page bringing his talents to already established, successful material, this could be a massive hit.

Page has appeared in three feature films since his Bridgerton stint, and none of them performed to their desired expectations. The Gray Man received mixed reviews, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Black Bag both underperformed at the box office. He’s now returning to television for a Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid reboot series.

None of these is Page’s fault, especially given that he was playing supporting roles, but it will be enjoyable to see him returning to the screen in a more prominent manner. Between playing Butch Cassidy and the leading role in Funny You Should Ask, he should have some fantastic opportunities to demonstrate his worth as a leading man.

Our Take On Regé-Jean Page’s New Series
Regé-Jean Page Will Essentially Be Playing James Bond

If you’re an actor and you can’t play James Bond, you can always be an actor playing an actor playing James Bond. Well, Regé-Jean Page hasn’t technically lost out on the Bond sweepstakes just yet, but there’s so much competition for the role that I wouldn’t bet my life savings on it. This TV series sounds like the next best thing for him.

Regé-Jean Page easily has the talent and the charisma for Bond, but he’s proven to excel in the romance genre. I have a feeling this series is the best course of action for him, and those who wanted him as 007 will likely get to see snippets of something that might look like. For Bridgerton fans missing Page, this will be a must-watch.
