Here For The Long Haul
On the red carpet at the Daytime Emmy Awards, Martsolf spoke with JLJ Media’s Candice Mack, who mentioned National Soap Opera Day. Yes, it is a real thing and is observed on October 20.
Martsolf revealed that the soap opera genre means “persistence” to him. The actor admitted a couple of years ago that the genre was struggling as numbers were low across the board, and it was in jeopardy.
However, thanks to Beyond the Gates, Martsolf feels that it has changed the dynamic of the genre for the better.
“Now we got this little engine that could called Beyond the Gates that is making shock waves,” he expressed.
The Peacock soap hunk feels the show has reminded networks of the power of the genre. There are no fans like soap fans. They are loyal and will stick around even through the not-so-good times.
Speaking of sticking around, after nearly 25 years in daytime, Martsolf has no plans to leave. In fact, the resurgence of soaps because of BTG has him excited for the future.
“I think our genre is on the rise, and I’m totally freaking excited about it. Because I’m all in. I’ve told Ken Corday and the powers that be that I’ll be your Brady till the end of this train, when it crashes into the station,” Martsolf said.
No, he doesn’t think that crash is coming either. Instead, he feels that soaps will continue to move forward and thrive, which we are happy to hear.
