Ahsoka Season 2 Needs To Fix One Major Season 1 Mistake

Ahsoka Season 2 is officially in development, with Dave Filoni returning to the Star Wars series. However, the next season must fix one major problem.

Star Wars Ahsoka and Andor

Lucasfilm has officially announced that Dave Filoni is currently developing the second season of Ahsoka. The first season of the Star Wars Disney+ series changed the franchise forever, following the former Jedi Ahsoka Tano and her allies as they worked to stop the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn from escaping his exile and returning to the galaxy. However, given the season’s cliffhanger ending, the second season can’t come soon enough for viewers.

Ahsoka makes Star Wars: Rebels essential viewing for any Star Wars fan by reintroducing several of the animated series’ characters in live-action, including Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Ezra Bridger, and Chopper. As terrific as the series was in its depiction of these characters, Ahsoka missed a major opportunity in its first season. Even though most of Rebels’ main characters appear in the series, they are never reunited in the first season — something which Season 2 must fix when it finally releases.

Star Wars: Rebels ran for four seasons, consisting of 75 episodes.
Kanan Jarrus is the only member of the Ghost crew not to have ever appeared in live-action.
The last time that the Ghost crew was all together was just before Kanan’s death in 1 BBY, about thirteen years before the events of Ahsoka.
As amazing as the first season was, Ahsoka missed the opportunity to bring the Ghost crew back together for the first time since the end of Star Wars: Rebels. With the exceptions of Kanan Jarrus, who died shortly before the events of A New Hope, and Zeb Orrelios, who was previously seen in The Mandalorian, the entirety of the Ghost crew appears in the first season of Ahsoka. However, each character is mostly engaged in their storylines apart from one another. The entire crew hasn’t been together since Ezra Bridger’s disappearance at the end of Rebels. The season ends when Ezra finally reunites with Hera and Chopper, but this is only after Sabine finds herself trapped in a different galaxy.

Most of the Star Wars: Rebels cast has appeared in live-action, but Star Wars still desperately needs to put its classic crew back together again. The iconic characters have been separated for far too long, making their reunion long overdue. The crew of the Ghost was, for all intents and purposes, a family of outcasts, outlaws, and outmoded warriors who loved each other when no one else did. Their long separation was not only painful for each of them, but character-building. Each member of the crew has grown into a different person since the end of Rebels, making their coming reunion all the more interesting. When they finally do come back together, there is no telling whether or not things can be the same as they once were. This will finally put the family to the test as they try to reignite their bonds after so long apart.
The Crew of the Ghost is a close-knit family.
All of the Ghost Crew appeared in Ahsoka except for Zeb and Kanan.
The Ghost crew will inevitably all get back together at some point shortly, though the exact circumstances behind their reunion remain unclear. Ezra Bridger’s return to Ahsoka certainly puts things in motion, as he finally returns from his years-long exile, where he was trapped outside of the galaxy along with Grand Admiral Thrawn and his army. Now back in the company of Hera and Chopper, Ezra’s next step will most likely be to track down Zeb, who was last seen working with Carson Teva and the New Republic navy in The Mandalorian. After that, all of their efforts would go toward finding a way to get Ahsoka and Sabine back from Peridea, where they remain trapped after the events of the previous season.

In the aftermath of their latest battle with Grand Admiral Thrawn, Ahsoka and Sabine’s return to the main Star Wars galaxy is an item of utmost concern. Much of Season 2 will likely follow part of the Ghost crew as they attempt to find a way to rescue their stranded friends. However, with Thrawn now back and on the cusp of starting another war, it seems unlikely that they will have time to track down the Purrgil and make it back to Peridea. More likely, the Ghost will spend most of their time together fighting Thrawn and his army before they can reinstate the Galactic Empire. As terrifying as Thrawn’s return may be, the Rebels have defeated him in the past and can do so again. Even so, it will take hard work, devotion, and unity to save the galaxy once more, forcing the Ghost crew to put aside whatever qualms they may have and focus on the mission at hand.

Reuniting the crew of The Ghost makes even more sense from the perspective of fighting Thrawn. Ezra and his family have the most experience in fighting the terrifying Grand Admiral. Bringing them all back together may give the New Republic the best chance against Thrawn and his undead army. This could even include bringing back Captain Rex, who often worked with The Ghost, which would also give fans another much-desired reunion between Rex and Ahsoka.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to enter production later in 2024.
Dave Filoni’s Heir to the Empire movie is set up as the finale of The Mandalorian and its interconnected series.
Along with the announcement of Ahsoka Season 2’s development, Lucasfilm also confirmed the production of The Mandalorian and Grogu, a film helmed by Jon Favreau that will serve as the fourth season of The Mandalorian. This news could indicate two diverging storylines in upcoming Star Wars projects, wherein Ahsoka follows the characters still stranded on Peridea and The Mandalorian follows those on the frontlines of the battle against Thrawn in the main galaxy. It may be the case that Ezra, Hera, and the rest of the Ghost crew do not appear in Ahsoka Season 2 at all, but are rather main characters in the upcoming Mandalorian movie, joining forces with Din Djarin and Grogu as they try to keep the galaxy from descending into chaos after Thrawn’s return.

If this is the case, audiences may have to wait a bit longer for the entire Ghost crew to reunite once more. Rather than Ahsoka Season 2 focusing on Thrawn, The Mandalorian, and Grogu can continue this storyline as the galaxy builds closer and closer to its next war. Thrawn’s return would inevitably be a large enough event to demand the attention of the entire cast of Rebels, even if it meant leaving their allies in exile for a while longer. Even so, fans of Rebels shouldn’t despair, as it seems more than likely that the Ghost crew will at least come back together in Dave Filoni’s upcoming Heir to the Empire movie.

Star Wars continues to tease fans with the complete reunion of the Ghost crew from Rebels. Even so, viewers may have to wait just a bit longer before their favorite characters all come back together again.
