The last installment of the ‘After’ movie series lacks a little bit of everything other than Hardin and his downfall
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix has just dropped the final installment of the ‘After’ series which focuses largely on one of the main characters, Hardin, and his potential to redeem himself. ‘After Everything’ is nothing but a redemption arc.
Hero Fiennes Tiffin who plays the role of Hardin in ‘After Everything’ has given his best and done justice to an otherwise lackluster script that doesn’t go beyond showcasing the lead male character as an alcoholic who will only change for the better because he has a woman to bring back in his life, aka Tessa Young.
‘After Everything’ stays laser-focused on Hardin
The runtime of Netflix’s ‘After Everything’ is somewhere around the 90-minute mark, and if you think this movie is about Hardin and Tessa finding their way back to each other, you might want to rethink that.
While Tessa and Hardin do have their moments in flashbacks, texts, and the end of ‘After Everything,’ it simply isn’t enough to sell the movie as a strong finale to the series.
Hardin is struggling to write his second book after the raging success of the first one, especially after the first book led to the demise of his relationship with the love of his life.
Now Hardin has drowned himself in alcohol until he finds his way to Portugal to make amends with Natalie, a girl whose life Hardin and his friends had ruined over a bet.
Natalie is the saving grace of ‘After Everything’
There’s simply too much and yet nothing happening in the entirety of ‘After Everything,’ but Natalie, played by Mimi Keene, best known for her work in ‘Sex Education,’ is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise dull attempt of a finale.
Keene does justice to her character, as well as adds beautifully to Hardin’s redemption arc.
However, as much as fans would love Keene, ‘After Everything’ is still missing the spark that was around in the previous movies.
Hardin and Tessa text a few times during the movie, and as aforementioned, there are certain flashbacks because Hardin cannot think about anything or anyone but Tessa.
Despite everything, including Tessa’s attempts to push Hardin away, this movie’s series was bound to have a happy ending and that’s exactly the route it takes. Maybe a different direction would have served ‘After Everything’ more purpose.
Nevertheless, Netflix’s ‘After Everything’ might not make it to your watchlist this weekend.
