After Everything has received criticism from some fans for the lack of screen time for Tessa Young, played by Josephine Langford.
The latest entry in the romantic drama franchise follows on from last year’s After Ever Happy, and while it does feature some of Tessa, it is minimal, and many have been left disappointed that the focus has primarily been on Hero Fiennes Tiffin’s Hardin Scott.
“Saw the movie last night. Huge disrespect towards Jo and her incredible work as our Tessa,” one fan wrote on Twitter/X.
Another added on Instagram: “Where’s Jo? Oh I forgot you guys don’t care! This movie was one big FU to [author Anna Todd], Jo, and the real Hessa/book fans.”
“Hero may have the lead role in this stupid movie, but JOSEPHINE LANGFORD has ALL our respect and admiration forever,” a third added, while a fourth said: “Without Tessa? Yea, no thanks.”
The After series is based on the books of the same name by Anna Todd, though After Everything is the first installment in the movie franchise that is not based on source material.
The fifth movie was announced last summer, which came as a shock to fans as many had been under the impression that After Ever Happy was the conclusion to the series.
“We have just wrapped filming on the fifth After movie!” Tiffin announced at the time. “I can’t tell you too much about it just yet, but I can tell you that it will be called After Everything. And cannot wait for you all to see it.”
