After a few tense episodes without him, Chicago Fire fans can breathe a sigh of relief — Dermot Mulroney’s Chief Pascal is officially back. The veteran actor will return in Season 14, Episode 6, titled “Broken Things”, airing Wednesday, November 5 on NBC.
A Few Weeks of Chaos at Firehouse 51
The last few episodes of Chicago Fire have been packed with emotional twists. In Episode 4, Herrmann’s family lost everything when their house was destroyed in a fire, leaving him struggling to rebuild his life with the support of his Station 51 crew.
Meanwhile, Severide and Kidd continued adjusting to their new roles as foster parents, and fans finally began to uncover the mystery behind Sal’s arrival at the firehouse.
Amid all this drama, one noticeable absence left fans with questions — Chief Pascal was missing for two consecutive episodes.
Why Chief Pascal Was Missing
Within the storyline, Pascal’s disappearance was explained as a temporary reassignment. Following budget cuts that led to the firing of six battalion chiefs, Pascal was dispatched to assist at other firehouses.
His off-screen absence sparked speculation among fans that Mulroney might be stepping away from the show for an extended break. Thankfully, that’s not the case.
Back in Command
Dermot Mulroney’s return in Episode 6 has been officially confirmed through new promotional photos and the episode synopsis, both hinting at a mentoring arc between Pascal and Severide.
In “Broken Things”, Pascal will step into a guiding role, inviting Severide to shadow him for the day. The episode teases a growing mentor–mentee bond as the two work together on an important project that appears to involve Mayor Benning’s Chief of Staff, Annette Davis.
While details remain under wraps, early stills show Pascal and Severide poring over plans and meeting with Davis, suggesting the pair are tackling a major issue that could impact the entire Chicago Fire Department.
From Rivals to Allies
It’s remarkable to see how far these two characters have come. When Pascal first joined 51, tensions ran high between him and Severide. But over time, their mutual respect has deepened into one of the show’s most compelling professional relationships.
As one insider teased, “Pascal and Severide might go about things differently, but at the end of the day, they both want the best for 51.”
With Pascal now returning to guide Severide, fans can expect emotional growth, renewed leadership, and perhaps a new challenge that could test their bond all over again.
