Aug. 28 (UPI) — Season 2 of NCIS: Origins will honor late franchise favorite David McCallum by having Adam Campbell play the younger version of McCallum’s beloved character Ducky this fall.
“We wanted to do this episode to honor the memory of our dear friend David McCallum,” co-showrunners and executive producers Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North said in a statement Thursday.
“He was a beloved member of the NCIS family for so many years and we’re incredibly lucky to have the talented Adam Campbell back to bring the younger version of this iconic character to life once again. We even got to feature David’s music in the episode. We’re all very excited and can’t wait for the fans to see it!”
McCallum played NCIS chief medical examiner Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard on the original NCIS series for 20 years until his death in 2023 at the age of 90.
Campbell previously played Ducky in flashbacks throughout the main series on CBS.
Origins is set in the early 1990s and follows a younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Shotwell), the character Mark Harmon played on NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans for 18 seasons.
