The 9-1-1 universe continues to expand, even with 9-1-1: Lone Star in its fifth and final season. After much speculation about the future of the Ryan Murphy-led universe, the multi-network has confirmed to Variety that there is, in fact, another 9-1-1 series in the works. Still in the early stages of development, Murphy revealed that he has written the script with Tim Minear. The location or premise of the show has not been determined, but they hope to air during the 2025/2026 television season. The show will air on 9-1-1’s current channel, ABC. Murphy spoke about the new series, saying, “Tim Minear and I are doing a new spinoff that we’re actually writing and we’re hoping to air next fall. . . . So now we’re launching a new show in a new city that I can’t name, but it’s exciting. And ‘9-1-1’ moved to ABC and suddenly became, I think, the biggest show on Thursday night for that show, so we’re giving them another show that I really love.” Murphy also addressed the end of 9-1-1: Lone Star. He echoed the same reasons Fox gave for canceling the series. “It’s sad, we all love Lone Star, but financially it just doesn’t work. It’s a Disney company that used to be on the Fox channel and it was never going to work. And we’ve had a long time with it,” he told the publication. The final season debuted to strong viewership amid spinoff talk from current showrunner Rashad Raisani. He revealed that he had been “desperately pushing” for a spinoff focusing on fan-favorite Carlos and his new partner in the Texas Rangers, Campbell.
There has been no official announcement about the spinoff yet. If greenlit, the new 9-1-1 series would be the third show in the universe and the second 9-1-1 series on ABC. It would be Ryan Murphy’s third series on the channel after Doctor Odyssey debuted last week. The Joshua Jackson-led series debuted with 7.59 million viewers, according to official reports. “Based on how successful it was,” Murphy is “pretty optimistic about a second season,” he said. 9-1-1 Season 8 airs Thursdays on ABC, while 9-1-1: Lone Star dominates Fox’s Mondays.
