We’re getting a Virgin River and 9-1-1: Nashville crossover… sort of. Unfortunately, it’s not an actual universe-merging crossover (imagine Virgin River existing in the chaotic 9-1-1 world!), but fans will still see a familiar face from the Netflix hit showing up to cause some trouble for the Nashville crew.
In Season 1, Episode 6 of 9-1-1: Nashville, titled “Good Southern Manors” and airing Thursday, Nov. 13 at 9/8c on ABC, viewers will finally meet Tim Matheson’s recurring character Edward Raleigh. Matheson—known for Virgin River, Hart of Dixie, and The West Wing—was confirmed for a recurring role earlier this summer.
Meet Edward Raleigh: Southern Charm, Old Money… and Trouble
Deadline describes Edward as “Southern old money and utterly ruthless.” First-look photos show Edward sharing drinks with Don (Chris O’Donnell) in an upscale bar—calm on the surface, but with clear tension underneath.
Other images reveal Edward sitting with Don and Blythe (Jessica Capshaw), with Blythe holding his hand. That alone suggests he’ll be stirring up drama for the Hart family, likely putting Don right in the middle of it all.
Is Edward Connected to the Episode’s Major Emergencies?
ABC’s official episode synopsis reads:
“As Don, Blue, and Ryan take extreme measures to prevent a distillery explosion, the 9-1-1 call center is disrupted by budget cuts and hackers. Amidst the chaos, Blythe faces an emergency of her own.”
Given the description of Edward—wealthy, powerful, intimidating—he could easily be tied to the distillery storyline. Is he its owner? Its investor? Or does his involvement hit even closer to home?
Some fans are already theorizing he may be connected to Blythe’s emergency. Could Edward be her father? Her estranged relative? Blythe has hinted at old-money roots… and the photo of them holding hands raises eyebrows.
Virgin River Fans: Don’t Panic
Although Matheson will appear in a recurring capacity on ABC’s newest hit, Virgin River fans don’t need to worry. Doc is not going anywhere.
Matheson is confirmed to return for:
✔ Season 7 (expected early 2026)
✔ Season 8 (already renewed)
It’s simply another chance to see the actor flex a very different kind of character—less small-town gruff doctor, more polished Southern power player.

Why This Role Feels Fresh
Matheson has spent recent years playing warm but prickly physicians—first on Hart of Dixie, then on Virgin River. Edward Raleigh is a departure: wealthy, calculated, influential, and potentially dangerous.
Fans are eager to see who he butts heads with… and whose lives he turns upside down.
