‘A Fool’s Errand’: Blue Bloods Showrunner on Why Nobody’s Getting Promoted in Final Season
Blue Bloods showrunner Kevin Wade explains why fans shouldn’t be expecting the series’ core cast to make any major career moves in the finale.
Per TVLine, Wade responded to the question of whether any of Blue Bloods’ main cast members could expect a promotion in the upcoming series finale. “It seemed to me to be kind of a fool’s errand to promise something that you, by definition, wouldn’t be delivering on,” Wade explained. “Putting somebody in a new job, but you’ll never see them again? No, we just had them do the jobs they’ve been doing all these years and doing them, hopefully, as well as they ever did them.”
In Which Blue Bloods Episode Does Linda Die?
Linda Reagan was a series regular on Blue Bloods and the wife of Danny Regan until she was killed off after Season 7. But did Linda need to die?
Created by Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess, Blue Bloods premiered on CBS in September 2010 and quickly became a favorite among fans of police procedurals and family dramas alike. The series stars Tom Selleck as New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, a decorated police veteran and dedicated family man. Alongside Selleck, Blue Bloods stars Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan, Bridget Moynahan as Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan, and Will Estes as Sergeant (formerly Officer) Jamie Reagan, as well as Len Cariou in the role of retired Commissioner Henry Reagan, Frank’s father. The series’ original cast also included Amy Carlson as Linda Reagan, Sami Gayle as Nicky Reagan-Boyle, and Tony and Andrew Terraciano as Jack and Sean Reagan, respectively.
Blue Bloods Will Soon Return With Its Final Season
The final eight episodes of Blue Bloods’ fourteenth and final season are slated to begin airing on October 18, with fans hotly awaiting their release. Regarding the decision to finally wrap up the long-running series as something of a blessing considering how long it has already been on the air. Wade noted, “If you’re on for 14 years, in at least four or five of those years you started out a season going, ‘This could be the last one,’ just as a numbers game.”
Police procedurals like Blue Bloods are often packed with high drama, creating some of the most heartbreaking episodes.
Blue Bloods star Jennifer Esposito, who portrayed Detective Jackie Curatola on the series’ first three seasons and returned for the final two, opened up about the timing of the series’ cancelation. “I think they’re smart to end it now,” Esposito said. She went on to recall how supportive fans have been of her return to the series after nearly a ten year absence, saying, “I still get asked, ‘Are you gonna go back to Blue Bloods?!’ And it’s like, ‘That’s, like, 10 years ago!’ That really warms my heart, so I couldn’t be mad at it. It was nice to go back.”
Blue Bloods is currently available for streaming on Paramount+ and Prime Video. The final episodes of Season 14 begin airing on CBS on October 18.
