“Jubal Feels Seen By Faheem”: FBI Season 7, Episode 10’s Breakup & Long-Awaited Reunion Explained By Star Jeremy Sisto

A new installment of FBI aired Tuesday, February 4 on CBS and put the team’s Assistant Special Agent in Charge front and center. Season 7, Episode 10, titled, “Redoubt”, sees Jubal reach a crossroads with his confidential informant of seventeen years. Faheem claims to have information about a large-scale terror attack and tries to barter for his brother’s release from prison. After Jubal discovers that Faheem is lying, the CI admits that he’s being blackmailed, with Daanish’s life hanging in the balance.

Faheem begs Jubal for help, insisting that the two have a real friendship outside their work. When the agent tries to deny their close bond, Faheem recounts a time he protected Jubal during the height of his alcohol addiction. Daanish is, ultimately, saved, but Faheem is unassigned as Jubal’s CI. While the breakup is difficult, Jubal returns home to Sam, who is ready to give their relationship another shot.

ScreenRant interviews star Jeremy Sisto about Jubal and Faheem’s relationship, his character’s long-awaited reconciliation with Sam, and what’s coming up next on FBI season 7.

Faheem Gave Jubal The Gift Of True Friendship In FBI
“The friendship is so firm, in fact, that he had really forgotten that part of their past. Or at least didn’t have it on top of mind.”
Jeremy Sisto: He feels like he’s worked so hard to regain Sam’s trust, and Faheem going to Sam’s house is so detrimental to that. Ordinarily, as an agent, keeping your home life protected from your work life is highly important, but there is a dynamic here that accentuates that element even more.

Jubal may be sober, but his addiction still comes back to haunt him in this episode. What did it feel like for him to hear that story from Faheem?

Jeremy Sisto: As an addict, you are always vulnerable, always aware you could see someone who witnessed that other side of you. It’s a life full of landmines and shame bombs. But the one area you come to find solace in is relationships, friendships where you know that the person understands, and doesn’t define you by the demons in your past. Faheem was one of those people, so it is definitely a blow to have that rug pulled.

Faheem clearly felt a kinship with Jubal, given the story he told. What do you think made Faheem want to help him on a personal level?

Jeremy Sisto: They understood each other. Faheem is a good man, someone who takes the time to really listen to his friends, does the work of compassion. I think he saw Jubal’s goodness. And maybe he understood the elements that sent Jubal down that dark path. He saw his worth, and wanted to help him see the other side.

On the other side of that, how does Jubal feel about Faheem? Is he truly just a CI to him?

Jeremy Sisto: Definitely not. The friendship is so firm, in fact, that he had really forgotten that part of their past. Or at least didn’t have it on top of mind. That is the gift of friendship, true friendship – not being defined by your past mistakes – feeling understood. Jubal feels seen by Faheem.

Jubal And Faheem’s Breakup In FBI: Season 7, Episode 10 Was Necessary
“He might secretly hope that after some time they will actually be able to be friends again.”

Castille being willing to cut the feed at Jubal’s request further proves the unconditional trust between them. What do you enjoy most about their bond?

Jeremy Sisto: I love their relationship. They really show great respect for each other in their positions. It could be so easy to step on each other, but Jubal is always so ready to let go of the reins when she deems it necessary, and Isabelle is very respectful of how Jubal feels he needs to energize a case. It’s one of those relationships that exists mainly at the office, but in some ways, there is as much intimacy there as there might be with family.

Can you elaborate on why Jubal felt it was best to assign Faheem to a different agent after the events of the episode?

Jeremy Sisto: I think there are multiple elements there. I think Isabelle probably wanted it, so it might not have even been Jubal’s choice. But I think Jubal would agree that it needed to end. Perhaps it should have already been passed on. It is important there are some clear boundaries in these relationships, as this episode makes clear.

He also feels betrayed by Faheem, so I think a breakup feels right for that reason. And lastly, he might secretly hope that after some time they will actually be able to be friends again, without the job muddying that water.

Jubal And Sam’s Reconciliation In FBI Season 7, Episode 10 May Not Be Simple
“Obviously, there is a lot of water under the bridge.”

Did you ever picture Jubal and Sam getting back together? What were your thoughts on their final scene?

Jeremy Sisto: It is definitely what Jubal wants, but things are never as simple. Obviously, there is a lot of water under the bridge. But his priority is his kids and his family, and if he can recreate that haven, he would in a second. We’ll see. Our showrunner, Mike Weiss, gave me a heads-up at the beginning of the season, and I was definitely surprised.

Are Jubal and Samantha officially jumping back into their marriage, or are they taking things slow?

Jeremy Sisto: We don’t check in for a bit. But he is still wearing his ring.

What else can you tease about Jubal’s storyline during the remainder of season 7?

Jeremy Sisto: There are some great cases, and the JOC is really playing an integral part throughout a lot of these cases. I’m loving how Mike and the new writer are exploring the JOC.
