9-1-1 has been renewed for Season 8 by ABC ahead of the popular procedural’s 100th episode, which aired April 4, 2024.
News of the renewal came a couple of weeks after the first responder drama’s Season 7 premiere—its first on new network ABC, which inherited the series from its home base of Fox. According to ABC, the premiere drew 11.8 million multiplatform viewers within a week of its debut, cementing the show as ABC’s most-watched current series across platforms this season.
Back in May 2023, Fox canceled its highest-rated series for financial reasons, leading ABC to swoop in for a pickup.
The renewal isn’t a large surprise for devoted viewers or the network itself, given its success and the reprisal of parent company Disney’s overall deal with co-creator Ryan Murphy, who also has ABC series Dr. Odyssey, a Hulu legal drama (with Kim Kardashian) and FX show Grotesquerie forthcoming at the conglomerate.

While it’s too early to determine the exact cast lineup heading into next season, we can venture a guess that the show’s mainstays are set to return to the 118. They are:
Angela Bassett as Athena Grant-Nash
The show’s lead and a field sergeant for the Los Angeles Police Department, Athena is married to Bobby.
Peter Krause as Bobby Nash
Married to Athena, Bobby is the 118 captain.
Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley
Maddie works as a 9-1-1 dispatcher, and this season will feature a large storyline for her as she and Chim tie the knot.
Oliver Stark as Buck
A member of the 118, Buck is Maddie’s brother and perpetually trying to get his romantic affairs in order.
Kenneth Choi as Chimney
The wisecracking Chim is a member of the 118 and is Maddie’s fiancé.
Aisha Hinds as Hen Wilson
The 118’s interim captain, Hen is married to recurring character Karen (Tracie Thoms).
Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz
Father to Christopher, Eddie is a close friend of Buck’s and fellow member of the 118.
Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz
Christopher is Eddie’s teen son, who was going through growing pains last season with regard to his late, estranged mother.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner as Amir
The Cosby Show star appeared in four episodes of Season 7, playing Amir, a hospital burn unit nurse who has a history with Bobby. He’ll be a series regular in Season 8.
Callum Blue as Brad Torrance
Brad is an obnoxious actor, playing a character within the show-within-a-show “Hotshots.”
