Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) and Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) have been through a lot as people. They have both experienced trauma, romantic or otherwise, and have struggled to juggle their work with their personal lives on occasion. Their break up at the end of season 12 proved it.
The couple had a pretty nasty argument, and while they’ve remained civil in the aftermath, it’s clear there is still a lot between them that’s unresolved. This lack of resolution will be a plot point in future episodes of Chicago Fire season 13.
Carver and Violet will reconsider their friendship
Andrea Newman told TV Line that while the characters have sort of avoided each other during the first half of the season, their paths will intertwine and they will hash out the way they feel about each other during the second half.
“There’s a lot of drama coming up with the two of them,” Newman confirmed. “There’s a lot of repercussions that still are playing out from what happened at the end of last season when she pushed him away, basically.”
The showrunner also confirmed that “a lot” is going to happen between Carver and Violet, and shape the way they view their feelings toward one another as both friends and possibly even partners. “A lot [is going to] happen between the two of them as we head towards the end of the season,” she added.
The exes will have to determine how they feel
The thing Newman does leave vague, however, is where the two will end up when all the dust has settled. Carver and Violet have proven to be a volatile couple together, so the solution is not likely to be an easy one. “They’re trying to figure out where they’re at and where each of their emotional lives are at and how they can connect,” the showrunner teased. “If they can connect.”
We’re excited to see where this storyline goes. Carver has sort of been sidelined by the romantic situation he’s had during the first half of season 13. We understand that Tori (Holly Hinchliffe) was brought to show just how self-destructive the character can be, but it feels as though that arc has mostly run its course.
We’d like to see Carver refocus and reconsider the connection he had with Violet, because it was one of the deepest we’ve seen him make since he arrived on the show (beside Kidd, of course). There’s a lot there, and we’re relieved the Chicago Fire writers are going to unpack it.
