Welp, It Looks Like 9-1-1 Season 8 Is Making My Worst Fears About Eddie Come True

A few months following the season 8 fall finale, 9-1-1 finally returns in 2025, but my excitement for the new episode is diminished by its trailer, which might confirm one harsh truth about Eddie. The ABC procedural drama TV show created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear follows a group of Los Angeles first responders, including Ryan Guzman’s Eddie. The actor joined the 9-1-1 cast in season 2 and his character has been a fan favorite ever since. However, season 8’s midseason finale heartbreakingly suggests we will have to say goodbye to the Station 118 firefighter very soon.

The cliffhanger in the 9-1-1 season 8 fall finale indicates Eddie is exiting the show. At the episode’s end, Buck shows up at Eddie’s house and catches him looking up homes for sale in El Paso, Texas, where his son lives. Christopher moved in with his grandparents in season 7, and Eddie has been sorely missing him. After a heart-to-heart with actor Brad Torrance (played by Callum Blue), Eddie decides he can’t continue letting the distance grow between him and his son. So, Eddie might be leaving 9-1-1, and season 8’s midseason trailer hints that the worst is coming true.

ABC Has Released The First Trailer For 9-1-1 Season 8, Part 2
Maddie Is In Trouble

ABC released a 30-second trailer teasing what’s to come in 9-1-1 season 8’s second half. The video doesn’t reveal much about the future episodes, but it does spoil one significant, heart-racing upcoming storyline. Unfortunately, when the procedural drama returns, one 9-1-1 character will be in danger, prompting the others to do whatever it takes to save her.

When 9-1-1 season 8 returns, Maddie will become a target for a new serial killer terrorizing Los Angeles. As seen in the trailer, a tip about a possible hostage situation comes into the 9-1-1 call center. However, when Athena arrives at the location, no one is there. The promo doesn’t reveal much about the mystery, including how it jumps from a fake hostage crisis to Athena tracking down a murderer. However, the 9-1-1 season 8 midseason premiere trailer does reveal that the serial killer ultimately kidnaps Maddie. It also shows Buck, Chimney, and Hen looking concerned, suspiciously leaving one character out.

Eddie Is Nowhere To Be Seen During Maddie’s Kidnapping Crisis
Eddie Might Already Be Gone

Every 9-1-1 season 8 main character is featured in part 2’s trailer, except for Eddie, fueling my concern that he’s leaving the show. Athena, Bobby, Buck, Hen, Chimney, and Maddie are all in the video, while Eddie is mysteriously missing. Given what happened in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 8, Eddie’s absence is quite troubling and implies that the speculation regarding Ryan Guzman’s exit is true. Perhaps when the midseason premiere opens, Eddie has already reunited with Christopher in Texas.

Of course, the promo is only 30 seconds long, while the episode will be 40-plus minutes. So, it’s entirely possible that Eddie is in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 9, and the trailer’s editors just decided not to include him in the video. Or, they excluded Eddie to purposefully fuel the theory that he is leaving. I still find it suspicious that Guzman’s character is missing after the fall finale’s events, though. Whatever the case, Eddie’s move to Texas seems inevitable at this point.

Is Eddie Still Going To Come Back To Los Angeles In 9-1-1?
ABC Hasn’t Announced Ryan Guzman’s Exit

The good news is that Ryan Guzman’s 9-1-1 exit isn’t confirmed (yet). ABC hasn’t announced that the actor is leaving the show, despite the obvious setup for his character to depart during the season 8 fall finale. So, there is still time for Eddie to decide to stay (or come back) to Los Angeles. Buck could convince him to remain at Station 118, or Christopher may move back in with his father.

Since Christopher is Eddie’s number one priority, I can’t see a world where 9-1-1 season 8 doesn’t end with the father and son reuniting, whether it’s in Texas or Los Angeles.

On the other hand, it’s unlikely that Eddie’s problems will be solved so easily. It’s more probable that Eddie will move to Texas but eventually return to Los Angeles with Christopher. He has been missing a lot of his son’s life, which greatly upsets him. Since Christopher is Eddie’ number one priority, I can’t see a world where 9-1-1 season 8 doesn’t end with the father and son reuniting, whether it’s in Texas or Los Angeles.
