One Chicago Hiatus Explained: What Fans Can Expect Next Week

Fans of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. may be disappointed to learn that NBC’s beloved One Chicago shows are taking a one-week break tonight. Originally scheduled to air new episodes, the network has adjusted its lineup to accommodate President Joe Biden’s farewell address to the nation at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Following the address, NBC will air reruns of all three series. Here’s the updated schedule for tonight:

  • Chicago Med: Season 8, Episode 3, “Trust Fall”
  • Chicago Fire: Season 12, Episode 3, “All Kinds of Crazy”
  • Chicago P.D.: Season 11, Episode 3, “Off Switch”

The good news? New episodes of all three shows will return next week on January 22.

What to Expect When the One Chicago Shows Return

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming up in the next episodes of the One Chicago universe:

Chicago Med: “Broken Hearts”

The episode centers on a high-stakes operation to separate conjoined twins, while Hannah (Jessy Schram) reconnects with someone from her past. Dr. Archer (Steven Weber) faces a difficult patient, a controlling boss with a heart condition.

Weber explained Archer’s evolving character to Parade:

“Sharon reminds Dean that we have purpose here… She and he have this moment of connection that is indeed kind of intimate.”

Archer’s character continues to evolve as he begins to reflect on his own behavior and relationships, signaling a more compassionate approach moving forward.

Chicago Fire: “Chaos Theory”

The team responds to an emergency at a community center, while Severide (Taylor Kinney) is tasked with investigating one of his own squad members. Meanwhile, Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) steps in to help a teacher struggling after a traumatic event.

Chicago P.D.: “Zoe”

Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Burgess (Marina Squerciati) face an emotionally charged case involving an unidentified young girl. Complicating matters, Ruzek gets an unexpected visit from a family member—his father, Disco Bob, played by Jack Coleman.

Showrunner Gwen Sigan told Parade:

“It’s actually a two-parter about Ruzek and his father… paired with a really dark, twisted case that gets under Ruzek’s skin.”

Upcoming One Chicago Crossover Event

The scheduling shift will not impact the highly anticipated One Chicago crossover event, which is still set to air on January 29. This special three-part storyline will feature an intense collaboration between the teams from Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D..

Here’s the crossover schedule:

  • 8 p.m. ET: Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 11, “In the Trenches: Part 1”
  • 9 p.m. ET: Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 11, “In the Trenches: Part 2”
  • 10 p.m. ET: Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 11, “In the Trenches: Part 3”

Mark your calendars—this epic event promises gripping drama and high-stakes action across all three series.
