Joe Cruz, played by Joe Minoso, has faced intense challenges in Chicago Fire Season 13. With a past secret weaponized against him, Cruz’s career hangs in the balance. While the character struggles, Minoso recently shared a heartwarming story that lifted his spirits—and is sure to delight fans.
Minoso revealed to Screen Rant that former cast member Yuri Sardarov, known for playing Otis, made a surprise visit to the set of Chicago Fire. Although Sardarov left the show in Season 8, he remains a beloved figure in the One Chicago universe. Even more touching, Minoso shared how their bond, forged during the show’s early days, remains strong both on and off the screen.
Yuri Sardarov’s Surprise Visit to Season 13
According to Minoso, Sardarov dropped by during the early episodes of Season 13, reconnecting with the cast and crew. The visit was an emotional one for Minoso, bringing back memories of their shared time on the show.
“I think it was the beginning of the season,” Minoso recalled. “He visited the set and got to see a lot of people. It brought up a lot of old feelings—just talk about nostalgia, man.”
Minoso expressed deep affection for Sardarov, assuring fans that their bond remains intact despite their professional separation. “He’s the absolute best human. I love him. I will always love him,” Minoso added, reflecting on their enduring friendship.
A Friendship Forged from the Start
Minoso also shared some behind-the-scenes insight into his connection with Sardarov. The pair were the last actors cast for the Chicago Fire pilot and joined the team together during the final day of firefighter training.
“Yuri and I were the last two cast on the show,” Minoso said. “Everybody had already been here for a week doing fireman camp stuff, and we came in on the last day of all of that and sort of got a crash course in everything together.”
This shared experience created a bond that has lasted well beyond their time as co-stars. Minoso noted that their characters’ on-screen friendship mirrors their off-screen relationship, cementing Otis’ importance to Cruz.
The Legacy of Otis Lives On
Though Otis’ tragic death in Season 8 marked one of the most emotional moments in Chicago Fire history, his impact continues to shape Cruz’s character. Minoso emphasized that Cruz’s life—and even his son’s name—is a testament to the deep friendship between the two characters.
“There is no Cruz without Otis,” Minoso said, adding that Otis’ memory remains a significant part of Cruz’s journey.
While fans may never see Otis return to the firehouse, Minoso’s heartfelt anecdotes offer comfort. The enduring friendship between Minoso and Sardarov ensures that, at least in spirit, Otis and Cruz’s bond lives on.
