For the first time since 2019, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med are coming together for an epic three-show crossover event. Production challenges caused by COVID-19 restrictions, as well as last year’s writers’ and actors’ strikes, delayed the return of these massive collaborations. But now, with a full production slate in motion, NBC is bringing fans an unforgettable night of drama, action, and heart-pounding suspense.
Anastasia Puglisi, Wolf Entertainment Executive Vice President and co-executive producer of the One Chicago franchise, described the ambitious project: “Putting together what is essentially a three-hour action movie is an incredibly ambitious task requiring complete coordination across our writers, casts, crews, and producers. We’re thrilled to provide fans with a unique and compelling viewing experience.”
When and Where to Watch the #OneChicago Crossover
The highly anticipated event will air on Wednesday, January 29, kicking off at 8 p.m. ET/PT. However, there’s a twist—this crossover will not follow the traditional order of the shows:
- 8 p.m. ET/PT: Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 11, “In the Trenches: Part 1”
- 9 p.m. ET/PT: Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 11, “In the Trenches: Part 2”
- 10 p.m. ET/PT: Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 11, “In the Trenches: Part 3”
What’s the Story?
“When a gas explosion rocks a high-rise, Chicago’s first responders come out in force to rescue hundreds of civilians. It’s the calamity beneath the surface, however, that sends our heroes on a race to save 40 people trapped deep underground, including two of their own.”
This disaster sets the stage for what Chicago P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan calls “a three-hour action movie.” Sigan explains, “There are huge incidents, emotional stories, and unexpected character pairings across all three shows. Fans will love the ride.”

What Makes This Crossover Special?
The last major One Chicago crossover in 2019, titled “Infection,” was centered on a deadly bacterial outbreak and bioterrorism. While the stakes were high then, the upcoming “In the Trenches” event promises even bigger action sequences, higher emotional stakes, and complex character interactions.
Joe Miñoso, who plays Joe Cruz on Chicago Fire, explained, “This is a three-hour movie inclusive of all your favorite #OneChicago characters. It’s larger in scale than anything we’ve done before. Fans will be blown away by how ambitious this is.”
With its combination of intense action, intricate storytelling, and heartfelt character moments, the One Chicago crossover is set to be a landmark event that fans will talk about for years to come.
