The Golden Bachelorette could compete with Golden Bachelor for popularity
The Golden Bachelorette could become more popular than the record-breaking Golden Bachelor – here’s why.
The Golden Bachelor’s Golden Wedding, in which Gerry Turner wed Theresa Nist, happened three months ago and fans are still no closer to finding out who could be the first-ever Golden Bachelorette.
However, at least there’s one thing about the show that is pretty obvious: it’ll be even more popular than Golden Bachelor.
ABC and Bachelor Nation producers have done an incredible job of hyping up the show.
They took forever to confirm the spin-off was even in the works but that didn’t stop fans from speculating.
Throughout Gerry’s season of Golden Bachelor, fans called for many of his ladies to helm their own show, including fan favorites like Susan Noles, Joan Vassos, and finalist Leslie Fhima.
Once the show was confirmed, fans’ speculation sky rocketed, especially once producers started drip-feeding information.
With all the hype that surrounds it, there’s no way Golden Bachelorette won’t be as popular, if not more popular, than Golden Bachelor.
Fans loved Gerry’s first-ever season because he and his contestants were way more mature than previous Bachelor Nation alums.
They brought authentic, heart-warming moments and offered something new to the stale reality dating show landscape.
According to Screen Rant, Golden Bachelor’s premiere episode became the highest-rated debut for an unscripted ABC series in two years with a record-setting combined 13.9 million viewers.
Over 9 million people tuned in for the finale, too.
Over the years, the Bachelor franchise has become more about seeking social media fame or partnerships than finding love. This has resulted in most shows being boring, repetitive, and predictable, which in turn earned low ratings.
Gerry’s season showed fans that the older generations aren’t playing around and are not about to waste time looking for romance.
Golden Bachelorette will only give fans more of what they want.
The show’s casting director Jacqui Pitman recently shared a cryptic update for fans, implying that the role has been cast, but didn’t exactly add anything else.
In an interview with The Red Carpet (per 6ABC), Pitman couldn’t give much detail about who’ll helm the first-ever spin-off. However, she did say: “I can tell you nothing! But she’s amazing.”
Bachelor Nation alum Matt James put his mother, Patty James, who was also one of Gerry’s contestants on the list of possible leads too. However, in early February, USA Today reported that the top three candidates were Joan Vassos, and finalists Leslie Fhima and Faith Martin.
Since The Golden Bachelorette was announced, though, there have been some hints that a celebrity could take the lead.
Kathie Lee Gifford’s former Today co-stars, Hota Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager threw her name into the mix, while Ross Mathews has suggested Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton, and Sharon Stone, while discussing the topic on The Drew Barrymore Show.
Additionally, Susan Lucci has also been mentioned as a potential Golden Bachelorette lead.
ABC producers announced soap opera actress Susan Lucci, 77, was also at the top of their list.
In March, the All My Children legend added to the rumor by telling Us Weekly: “My mother used to watch The Bachelor, and I made fun of her,” Susan shared.
“Now, years later, I’m totally addicted to The Bachelor — including The Golden Bachelor!”
