Young Sheldon Bringing Back Another Big Bang Theory Character in Season 7

Young Sheldon Bringing Back Another Big Bang Theory Character in Season 7

Young Sheldon will see the return of another key character in its final season to help its transition into The Big Bang Theory.
Young Sheldon is ready to bring The Big Bang Theory’s prequel series to a close with Season 7, and it looks like another character is set to return for the series’ climax. According to executive producer Steve Holland, the final season will be looking to make further connections to its predecessor with the return of Tam, Sheldon’s childhood friend.
During a TVLine interview, Holland addressed Young Sheldon’s final season, and in particular the latest character to be coming back to see out the show. Holland confirmed:

Tam is going to be back.

Asked about whether the return would connect to the story an older version of Sheldon told him about The Big Bang Theory, Holland said:

I think where will be a nod to that.

Played in Young Sheldon by Ryan Phuong, Tam made his first appearance back in the first season of the series. Tam became significant for being the first character to crossover between Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory aside from the titular character himself. Robert Wu played the older version of Tam in The Big Bang Theory’s final season, where fans learned about the backstory of Sheldon and Tam’s friendship and eventual fallout over a broken promise that left Sheldon moving to California alone. This means that this new appearance is guaranteed to be one of the most connective moments in the final season.

Young Sheldon’s Finale Will Rival Big Bang Theory

With new episodes of Young Sheldon premiering on Thursdays on CBS, leading up to the series finale on May 16, 2024, fans are eagerly waiting to see how these final episodes will unfold. The reveal that another loved character will be back for the show’s conclusion adds to the comments previously made by series showrunner Chuck Lorre, who said that the ending of the series is set to be “as exciting, in its own way, as the finale of The Big Bang Theory.”

So far, there has been no indication of exactly how the show will end, and whether it will make a direct link to its parent series. What we do know, is that even with the end of Young Sheldon in sight, there is already another Big Bang Theory spin-off coming to take its place.

Lorre confirmed earlier in the year that the next show to break away from The Big Bang Theory will focus on Georgie and Mandy. While this series is just in the development stage, it is not out of the question for production to start later this year for a 2025 premiere. Fans will certainly be hoping this is true, so they don’t have to wait too long for their next foray into the franchise.
