Holiday Hijinks: ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Joins Nick at Nite and MTV with Special Marathons

Paramount has announced that The Big Bang Theory will join its Nick at Nite and MTV programming lineups, offering fans fresh opportunities to catch the beloved sitcom.

The rollout begins on December 24, when Nick at Nite will host a two-day marathon of holiday-themed episodes, perfect for fans seeking festive laughs during the holidays. Starting December 27, the network will regularly air episodes from 12 a.m. to 2 a.m., beginning with Season 4.

Meanwhile, MTV will kick off 2024 with “MTV’s New Year with a Bang,” a nonstop marathon of Season 3 episodes starting January 1. Beginning January 4, MTV will broadcast the show every Saturday and Sunday, making it a weekend treat for viewers.

A Strategic Move for Paramount

Laurel Weir, EVP and head of programming at Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, expressed excitement over the addition of The Big Bang Theory to the networks. “We are thrilled to welcome The Big Bang Theory back into the Paramount family, bolstering the comedy lineup for both Nick at Nite and MTV,” said Weir. She emphasized the importance of offering engaging, culturally resonant content, noting that Big Bang remains one of the most iconic comedies in television history.

The decision reflects a broader strategy to solidify Paramount’s comedy offerings while catering to an audience that continues to embrace the show’s enduring humor and relatable characters.

Streaming and Broadcast Flexibility

Despite joining the Paramount family, The Big Bang Theory remains accessible across multiple platforms. The show is still available on TBS and under a $600 million streaming deal with Max, ensuring fans have various options to enjoy the series.

This move represents a homecoming of sorts for the 10-time Emmy-winning series, which originally aired on CBS from September 2007 to May 2019. Paramount merged with CBS later in 2019, making the show’s integration into Paramount’s programming a natural progression.

A Legacy of Laughter

The Big Bang Theory follows the quirky lives of aspiring actress Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and her socially awkward but brilliant physicist neighbors, Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki). The ensemble cast also features Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Melissa Rauch, and Mayim Bialik, whose performances brought humor and heart to every episode.

Created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, the series aired 279 episodes over 12 seasons, leaving an indelible mark on pop culture. Its sharp writing and memorable characters helped it become one of the most celebrated comedies of its era.

With the addition of The Big Bang Theory to Nick at Nite and MTV’s schedules, Paramount ensures that the sitcom’s legacy continues to entertain audiences, whether they’re tuning in for the first time or reliving their favorite moments.
