Jimmy Kimmel’s aunt makes unexpected appearance on The Golden Bachelor premiere
The Golden Bachleor Gerry Turner got more than he bargained for in the first episode of the older age spin-off, with Jimmy Kimmel’s Aunt Chippy making a late entrance.
Fans of Kimmel’s late-night talk show will, of course, remember Aunt Chippy and all the pranks her nephew has put her through, including a fake cigarette gum commercial and a staged sonogram.
However, Aunt Chippy’s unexpected appearance on Thursday’s premiere of The Golden Bachelor was anything but a joke.
Apparently, being the aunt of a famous talk show host comes with the perk of getting to sit on the couch in the mansion amongst all the contestants… and taking a nap as the action unfolds.
Aunt Chippy’s cameo was a surprise, to say the least, but totally on brand for her, complete with hilarious one-liners.
The Bachelor spinoff stars a group of senior women looking for love with 72-year-old stud Gerry Turner.
The 84-year-old crashed Turner’s first night at the mansion after he met the majority of the 22 women in front of the house.
Wearing a sparkly green shirt, black pants, and flats, she arrived in a limo and as she emerged from the vehicle, she yelled: “Are we there? I’ll see you in hell.”
Then, she asked the driver: “Are you coming with me? Am I going myself?”
Walking up to Turner, she asked: “Are you the unluckiest guy in the world?!” He replied with a laugh: “No I am not.”
The two exchanged pleasantries for a moment, but Aunt Chippy cut right to the chase as she always does: “You must be lying about your age! I was curious. I said to my nephew, ‘He’s gotta be one in million. I want to meet him.’ He said, ‘OK you got it.’”
Turner asked who her nephew is, and she said Kimmel.
Turner laughed and gave her a hug, but in an interview with Decider he admitted he had no idea about her appearance.
“When she got out of the limo, I didn’t know what to do,” Turner told Decider. “I was kind of frozen. It’s like, ‘Is this a skit that somebody is going to work? Or is it legitimate? Or just what?’”
The hilarious aunt has made many appearances on her nephew’s late-night show over the years.
Aunt Chippy, whose full name is Concetta Potenza, is often the subject of his classic pranks.
She even has her own ABC bio, which states that she was born in Brooklyn, New York, and for 28 years she “was married to Frank Potenza, who worked as a security guard and was an on-camera talent for Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
The two divorced in the mid-’90s, so surely, she should be a contestant on the new dating show.
Chippy’s screen-time didn’t stop at her arrival – she stayed for all of the new drama – whether she was awake or not.
She went inside the mansion and met her competition, saying: “This ain’t no 80-year-old club, that’s for sure. Let me tell you something. I don’t belong here. Those ladies are really something. I’m in the wrong place.”
Later in the episode, she was seen snoozing on the couch, and a hilarious end-credits scene showed host Jesse Palmer waking her up from her nap.
When she woke up, she asked if she got a rose and he told her she slept through the ceremony.
“Can I at least get a petal?” she asked. “All the stems and all the petals have been handed out,” he replied. To that, she uttered, “A*****e.”
“Alright. I’m gonna go,” Chippy said, but before she left, Palmer asked if she had a good night, to which she said: “I did. I’m gonna take the couch home with me.”
