Star Wars’ Billy Dee Williams Addresses Lando’s Unresolved Rise of Skywalker Plotline

Star Wars franchise star Billy Dee Williams addresses The Rise of Skywalker’s unfinished plotline about Lando Calrissian’s lost daughter.

Actor Billy Dee Williams, best known for playing Lando Calrissian in Star Wars’ Skywalker Saga, recently addressed the whereabouts of Lando’s lost daughter four years after the unresolved plotline was teased in The Rise of Skywalker.

Speaking with the Dagobah Dispatch podcast to discuss all things Star Wars, Williams was asked about the unresolved plotline. “They were trying to decide whether I should have a daughter. I don’t know if they decided to follow up on that idea, I haven’t heard any feedback or anything on where – or what direction they want to take with that,” he shared. The Rise of Skywalker’s ending hinted at Naomi Ackie’s Jannah being Lando’s long-lost daughter, although Lucasfilm has not yet developed that relationship further at the time of writing. The 2022 novel Shadow of the Sith is so far the only other Star Wars media to offer some insight into Lando’s daughter, Kadara.

Williams first appeared as Lando Calrissian in the 1980 film, The Empire Strikes Back, as an old friend of Han Solo and administrator of Cloud City. He reprised the role in the 1983 sequel Return of the Jedi, with his character now depicted as a general in the Rebel Alliance, and in the 2019 film The Rise of Skywalker, aiding the Resistance. Donald Glover portrayed a younger version of the character in the 2018 standalone film Solo: A Star Wars Story, which depicts the beginnings of his friendship with Han. Williams also voiced Lando in the animated series Star Wars Rebels and video games Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefront II, as well as the character’s Lego version in The Lego Movie and various Lego Star Wars television specials.

Lando Is Getting His Own Star Wars Movie
Lucasfilm is currently working on a Star Wars movie titled Lando that will center around the eponymous character, with Glover attached to reprise the role. At this time, it is unknown if Williams will have any involvement in the potential feature, although fans have certainly expressed interest in the movie featuring both actors. Lando, which has been in development since 2020, was originally conceived as a Disney+ series before Glover came aboard to co-write Lando with his brother, Stephen Glover. While plot details remain unknown, “their take [on the character] is said to have Lucasfilm brass excited.”

Star Wars Set to Move Beyond The Rise of Skywalker
Star Wars is finally preparing to tell new stories set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Daisy Ridley has reportedly landed a massive payday to reprise her sequel trilogy role as Rey in an upcoming feature set 15 years after Rise of Skywalker. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will direct the untitled Star Wars movie that will focus on Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order while mentoring the next generation of Force users similar to the role Luke Skywalker played in the sequel trilogy.
