The Addams Family Mansion Returning In Wednesday Season 2 Creates Exciting Story Possibilities

Wednesday Season 2 Makes Netflix’s Original Missing Addams Family Detail Even Better

Wednesday left out the iconic location of the Addams Family series and movies, but its inclusion in season 2 is way better in the long run.

Season 1 of Wednesday left out one of the most iconic features of the original Addams Family, but the fact that it’s been teased for season 2 is far better. The Netflix series may include many of the Addams Family characters, but it has defined itself as a series all its own. Set in modern times with current technology, the series is more of a high school thriller than a family comedy, and Wednesday depended on its first season to get this shift across to audiences. Now that this has been established, season 2 is free to bring in more AddamsFamily features.

Wednesday season 1 ended with the titular Addams saving the day at Nevermore Academy. Of course, she had the help of her friends (and rivals), and the students were together able to get rid of the Hyde (Tyler) and the normie woman who was controlling him (Miss. Thornhill, AKA Laurel Gates). However, Wednesday’s adventures took quite a toll on the old school, especially considering the principal’s death. So, the students were sent home early. Season 1 ended with Wednesday on her way home to the thus-far unseen Addams Family mansion, teasing the inclusion of the location in Wednesday season 2.

Wednesday Season 1’s Nevermore Setting Helped The Spinoff Stand Out From Past Addams Family Stories

Despite The Addams Family traditionally being set at the Addams’ Mansion, Wednesday season 1 never showed the place on screen. Instead, Nevermore Academy served as the Netflix series’ primary location. This was a bit of a frustration to Addams Family purists since, outside their spooky home, it’s difficult to see the new versions of Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, and the rest as the same characters. However, this was an essential choice for Tim Burton’s spinoff. By setting everything in a brand new, original location, Wednesday was able to stand out from the various Addams Family movies of the past.

Since the Addams Family sitcom of the 1960s, there have been several adaptations of the Charles Addams’ comic strips. The movies from the 1990s and the animated films of the 2010s are all set at the Addams Mansion, and though they were beloved and overall successful, another adaptation featuring the same characters and same location wasn’t necessary. Burton’s Wednesday needed to definitively stand out as something brand new, and leaving the Addams’ home behind was the best way to go about this. Now that the Netflix series has successfully defined itself, features like the familiar old mansion can be brought back into the mix.

The Addams Family Mansion Returning In Wednesday Season 2 Creates Exciting Story Possibilities

Though we can’t know for sure that Wednesday season 2 will be set at the Addams Family mansion, several clues indicate it will (at least for a time). There is, of course, the fact that season 1 left off with Wednesday on her way home for a break from school, but it’s always possible that the Netflix series will pick up with the titular character making her way back to Nevermore again. However, a hint from the Wednesday costume designer, Colleen Atwood, also seems to indicate the return of the Addams Family mansion in season 2, stating in an interview (via Screen Rant) that she had the opportunity to design some outfits for Morticia to wear around the house.
This is an exciting prospect since a return to the old mansion opens the door for exciting story possibilities (perhaps Enid could even come for a visit). We can hopefully see some Addams Family characters that were missed in season 1, like Grandmama or Cousin Itt. It would help Wednesday feel a little more like The Addams Family, which will surely make long-time fans happy. This would have been a mistake to include in season 1—Wednesday and Nevermore needed some time to shine—but going into Wednesday season 2, it’s an exciting prospect audiences are ready for.
