Famous chef Gordon Ramsay was mocked by fans: ‘Out of touch’
Gordon Ramsay has been heavily criticized online after sharing what he said was an inspirational story – which wasn’t very well received by fans.
Ramsay has developed a huge cooking empire for himself, boasting the coveted title of “millionaire” after being the mastermind behind numerous TV shows, restaurants and cookbooks.
However, Ramsay insists things are not always smooth sailing. In fact, he went so far as to say that he was “needy” financially when he started his career.
The chef, who guested on the latest episode of Jake Humphrey’s High Performance podcast this week, revealed that he was once “out of money” – even though he was driving a $200,000 car.
Ramsay admitted that when he first started as a chef, he didn’t have enough money to pay the deposit on his first apartment loan with his wife, Tana.
In desperation, he went to borrow money from her father.
“We were young, we were stupid, we were skinny,” the famous chef said. Ramsay took his father-in-law out to eat and asked him to help them buy a house.
But things didn’t quite go as Ramsay wanted. Instead, the chef received a piece of advice that he says changed his life.
“He said ‘okay, this is what I’m going to do. I’ll have lunch with you when you sell your Porsche,’” Ramsay shared.
“I thought, you son of a bitch. But, you are so smart. Here I am driving a 911 in the blink of an eye, and we don’t even have a house, an apartment, a roof over our heads.
He continued: “That was the best advice he ever gave me: Sell your damn Porsche.”
While Ramsay seemed to find the story inspiring, especially for those who were also struggling at the beginning of their careers, social media users had a different opinion.
An X user criticized the chef: “Celebrities are truly the most delusional people on the planet.”
Another quipped “Great advice, the housing crisis is solved! I’m just going to sell my Porsche and ask for $20,000 so I can buy a place to live!”
