Will Mel and Jack Have Kids in ‘Virgin River’ Season 6? Spoilers Ahead
Find out where the show ends for this beloved TV couple.
At the end of Season 4 of Virgin River, Melinda “Mel” Munroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) are sitting by a fire, drinking hot cocoa under the stars, when Jack gets down on one knee and proposes to his pregnant love.
Previously, there was a question over whether the baby was Jack’s or the result of in vitro fertilization using embryos fertilized by Mel’s late husband, Mark. But once a paternity test reveals that Jack is the biological father of their unborn child, the couple celebrates. (It helps that Jack is not the biological father of his ex Charmaine’s twins.)
So, do Mel and Jack have a Baby in Season 5 of Virgin River? Spoilers ahead
Shortly before an encroaching fire threatens to destroy the town of Virgin River, Mel decides to quit the clinic to take it easy and begin to nest. But Mel being Mel, she quickly returns to work to help patients in need, including a pregnant woman who can’t make it to town due to blocked roads. Mel, Cameron Hayek (Mark Ghanime), the new doctor in town, and a firefighter deliver the baby via FaceTime.
Right before the delivery, Mel discovers she’s bleeding and conducts a quick ultrasound to discover there is no heartbeat. She has suffered her fourth miscarriage, another heartbreak in her path to motherhood, which includes the stillbirth of a baby before she came to Virgin River.
While fires continue to rage, she quickly jumps into caretaker mode and doesn’t tell Jack about her miscarriage until later in the day. She initially tells him that she’s done—her baby dreams are over because she cannot bear the heartbreak of another loss. But she and Jack ultimately come to an understanding that they will indeed have a family together, however it may come to them, leaving the door wide open for children in Season 6 and beyond.
One person who’s rooting for Mel and Jack to get their happily ever after? Virgin River author Robyn Carr, who spoke to Parade in connection with Season 5.
“Well, of course I would like Mel and Jack to get married and be happy together,” Carr said. “That’s kind of the end result of all romances, and you have to believe in it, too, which I do.”
