Golden Bachelorette’s Joan and Chock Share Why Their Love Will Last (Exclusive)

Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple’s love story is one of cosmic alignment — and we’re not just talking about their zodiac signs (Capricorn and Virgo, in case you’re wondering). Their undeniable connection captivated fans, and it was clear from the start that their bond was something special. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Joan and Chock share their journey from The Golden Bachelorette to their engagement and why they’re confident their love will last.

The Early Connection

For Joan, the chemistry was undeniable from their Disneyland date, just one week into the season. “It felt too good to be true,” Joan admits, “but the more I got to know Chock, the better it became.” Her initial doubts soon faded as she grew more certain of their bond. “I knew I was taking a leap of faith, but I was confident in my decision,” she says. The couple, both 61, found comfort in each other’s shared experiences of losing loved ones. Joan’s husband John passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2021, while Chock’s fiancée Kathy died of brain cancer in 2022. These shared losses deepened their connection, and they began to realize that their significant others would want them to move forward.

Love Without the Pressure

Throughout the show, Joan and Chock stayed grounded and confident in their connection, even as they navigated the emotions of competing suitors. Joan’s kids, however, weren’t always thrilled about seeing their mom kiss other men. “They were mortified,” she jokes, “I had to warn them about the kissing scenes.” Chock, on the other hand, was relaxed about the process, knowing Joan’s suitors were all good men. “There were a couple of cringe moments,” Chock admits, “but I handled it.”

Moving Beyond Doubts

For Joan, there were moments when she questioned whether her love for Chock could truly be real. “I kept thinking there must be a red flag,” she says. “But the more I got to know him, the better it got.” She even found herself making the difficult decision to end things with Guy Gansert before the final dates, as she realized her heart belonged to Chock. “I had to be honest with Guy,” Joan says. “I wanted him to leave with dignity.”

A Strong Foundation for the Future

When it came time for Chock to propose on a beach in Bora Bora, Joan couldn’t hold back her joy. “I never thought I’d feel love like this again,” she says, reflecting on the moment. The couple is now planning a future together, focusing on their relationship and blending their families. “We’re like the Golden Brady Bunch,” Joan laughs, referencing their new life as a blended family. Chock’s daughter and Joan’s kids are already connecting, and they’re excited about their upcoming life in New York, where they plan to live part-time.

Joan’s perspective on love in later years has changed drastically since losing her first husband. “After John passed away, I thought my future was a black hole,” she shares. “But now, it feels so bright. The possibilities are endless.” Chock agrees, adding, “This is my future.”

Not Rushing into a Wedding

Although fans may be eager for a wedding, Joan and Chock are taking their time. “We won’t be rushing into a TV wedding like some others,” Joan explains. “We’re just enjoying being together for now.” Their approach reflects their maturity and understanding of what matters most: building a solid foundation before taking that next step.

For now, Joan and Chock are embracing their golden years together, excited for a future filled with travel, family, and the joy of sharing their lives. “Living life in your golden years is special,” Joan says. “The possibilities are endless for us.”
