Pet Safety Is Colter’s Top Priority in ‘Tracker’ Season 2 Trailer

It’s common knowledge that dogs are man’s best friend, but a certain group of people seem to have missed that message when they teased Daisy the Beagle and helped create an action series in John Wick. CBS’s Tracker has been a huge hit for the network, and next Sunday’s episode, Tracker Season 2, Episode 7, “Man’s Best Friend,” will likely reinforce that point. According to the episode’s official synopsis, “When Colter finds a lost dog at a Denver gas station and it’s later stolen from his truck, Colter makes it his mission to track down the dog and reunite him with his family.” How could anyone not like Colter Shaw? CBS has released a new trailer for the episode, which airs Sunday, November 24.

The clip shows off the direction the episode will take, opening with Colter helping to rescue a mother and her young son. In his usual friendly manner, Colter (Justin Hartley) makes contact with the boy and soon gets his next assignment — helping find a lost dog. Colter’s next assignment, a delicate one, will involve the famed bounty hunter tracking down a possible murderer who is also a dog thief. Colter’s familiarity with solving highly unusual, but pet-safe cases seems like a case we can all get behind. Man’s Best Friend is directed by Ben Hernandez Bray, with frequent Tracker collaborators Alex Katsenelson and Jai Franklin Sarki penning an episode that will feature more of Fiona Rene’s Reenie.

One of the reasons Tracker is so beloved is its ability to combine mystery with simple, straightforward plots. Aside from the untapped stories of some of the supporting cast, the main draw of Hartley’s Colter is a show with a huge amount of mystery and family drama. Season 1 introduced viewers to Ashton Shaw (Lee Tergesen) and the strange, unexplainable situations he found himself in. In the years since his death, the family he left behind, Colter’s sister, Dr. Dory Shaw (Melissa Roxburgh), their brother, Russell (Jensen Ackles), and the triplets’ mother, Mary (Wendy Crewson), have become estranged on many different levels. “Their mother is a big issue that we’re going to address this season, and [we’re going to ask]: What does that mean?,” showrunner Elwood Reid previously said of the Shaws going forward. “Is she lying to [Colter]? Is she protecting him? Is she doing a little bit of both, or is she actively using him for something? I think Colter is a man who thinks about those things, but he doesn’t talk about them with people.”

Mystery and painful memories are traits that Tracker is no stranger to. So it’s a welcome relief that when “Man’s Best Friend” premieres next week, we can all root for a lost dog in an episode filled with hope and warmth.
