Why Robin Weigert’s Teddi Bruin Left Tracker After Season 1

Why Robin Weigert’s Teddi Bruin Left Tracker After Season 1

After just one season and 13 episodes, Tracker lost one of its five original cast members—Robin Weigert. Weigert played Teddi Bruin, who is married to Velma Bruin and works as one of Colter Shaw’s handlers on the CBS action drama. As fans know, Tracker centers around Justin Hartley’s Colter, a survivalist and bounty hunter. Colter is a lone wolf who travels across the country, using his expert tracking skills to help law enforcement and private citizens, and Teddi and Velma assist him in his work in season 1. However, starting in season 2, Teddi is no longer on Colter’s payroll.

Starting in season 2, episode 1, “Out of the Past,” Weigert is no longer part of the Tracker cast. The actress’s last appearance was in the season 1 finale of Tracker (unbeknownst to viewers), meaning Weigert was not present to see her character off in the season 2 premiere. As a result, other characters, including Colter, Velma, and Reenie Greene, were left to explain why Teddi did not appear in episode 1, which aired on October 13, 2024. TVLine exclusively reported in August 2024, months before the season 2 premiere, that Robin Weigert would not be reprising her role as Teddi in Tracker season 2. Unfortunately, the network did not reveal why Weigert left. At the time of writing, the reason behind the actress’s departure remains unknown, as neither Weigert nor the producers and cast of Tracker have revealed why she left after just one season.

Many stars who leave their respective TV shows often do so because of contract negotiations, scheduling conflicts, creative differences, a desire to explore other avenues, or because the storyline dictates so.

Of course, the basic and common explanations regarding the departure of TV actors could account for Weigert’s departure. Many stars who leave their TV shows often do so because of contract negotiations, scheduling conflicts, creative differences, a desire to explore other avenues, or because the storyline dictates so. Based on the story in Tracker’s season 2 premiere, Teddi’s absence may not have been a decision made solely for the sake of storyline. Otherwise, Teddi would have had a more dramatic exit. Therefore, it is more likely (but not confirmed) that Weigert left Tracker voluntarily.

The season 2 premiere of Tracker explains at least part of the fate of Robin Weigert’s character. While Teddi is never shown, Velma appears and reveals that her wife is out of town helping her mother. Velma has been there for Teddi but feels like she’s getting in her way. So Velma returns home in episode 1 to help Colter with his latest case and Reenie with her new law firm, allowing Abby McEnany’s character to integrate with the other characters after Teddi is gone.

Although the premiere never states it (but it’s implied), Teddi and Velma broke up in Tracker season 2. After it was announced that Weigert would be leaving the CBS action drama, showrunner Elwood Reid revealed the sad news. “[Velma] and Teddy have broken up. Velma is struggling with what it means to be abandoned in some way, and she’s going to work through that,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

Since Teddi and Velma are divorced, it’s unlikely that Weigert will return for season 2. Instead, the episodes will develop Velma’s story outside of her relationship with Teddi. She’ll continue to work for Colter, of course, but Velma’s relationship with Reenie will also develop as they work together at Reenie’s new law firm in Tracker season 2 on CBS.

While Robin Weigert’s departure technically means Colter will have one less person on his team, Tracker season 2 has Teddi’s replacement—Reenie. Yes, Fiona Rene as Reenie was a main cast member in season 1. However, after Reenie quit in season 1 of Tracker, her schedule was pretty open in season 2, meaning she could officially join Colter’s assistant team. Even if Teddi had stayed, Reenie would have likely become one of Colter’s handlers on the CBS action drama. But since Teddi is gone, Reenie will be her official replacement.

Ironically, with Teddi gone, the Tracker team will interact more and become closer in the episodes of season 2.

Plus, Weigert’s departure will finally make Reenie closer to the other characters (besides Colter) in Tracker season 2. While Teddi is away, Velma is busy helping Reenie open her new law firm. The two characters’ relationship will continue to develop as they continue to work together at the office and assist Colter on his cases.
