Yellowstone’s Piper Perabo had a blast filming the fair episode
Piper Perabo makes herself right at home on Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone.” Perabo’s stubbornly vegetarian Summer Higgins first appeared in the Season 4 episode “Under the Red Blanket”. Summer initially seemed like an insurmountable obstacle for John Dutton (Kevin Costner), but it didn’t take long for Higgins and the show’s protagonist to develop feelings.
Summer had many standout scenes in the first half of Season 5, but one of the most explosive was her long overdue fight with John’s overprotective adult daughter, Beth (Kelly Reilly). Fans knew from the moment the rivals met, and Beth hinted that Summer was a prostitute, that arguments were in their future. And when they finally fought in the Season 5 episode titled “Watch ‘Em Ride Away,” both actors worked hard to complete their own stunt work.
“Kelly and I started learning how to fight – a little over a month before we started filming,” Perabo said in an interview with Variety. “As we learned, the stunt coordinator would watch us to see which parts we would do well. If there’s a part he doesn’t like, he’ll take it out and re-choreograph it. So even just studying. it, and he created a long fight that we could do – except for the hip toss, Kelly and I could do the whole fight.” While the epic confrontation with Beth will If not soon forgotten, Perabo cannot forget that Summer day at the fair.
Perabo enjoys spending time at the fair
“Yellowstone’s” Summer Higgins shared a starry night at the fair with John Dutton in the Season 5 episode “The Dream Is Not Me.” The two even kissed, although the governor’s cowboy hat obscured it, but the actors actually kissed, even as Piper Perabo’s husband, Stephen Kay, directed the scene. “I had kissed Kevin before in the kitchen and a few other times, so we were like, ‘Let’s get this over with,’” Perabo explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. That romance, Perabo also enjoyed filming the entire fair scene.
“That scene was so exciting for ‘Yellowstone’ fans, that day was so epic for the cast and crew,” Perabo said in the same interview. Everyone enjoyed the atmosphere. Members of the hair and makeup department even took time to enjoy some funnel cakes on their breaks. Perabo also revealed that the crew will load mannequins onto the Tilt-A-Whirl to play the role of thrill-seeking enthusiasts.
“You can’t ask people to actually ride the Tilt-a-Whirl for 14 hours,” Perabo continued. But it’s even more fun at lunch. The crew will remove the dummy from the ride so Gabriel Guilbeau (Gator) and the show’s COVID supervisor can shoot the Tilt-A-Whirl. “Imagine Gator riding his horse howling in the dark,” Perabo said. “It was really fun. There was great joy and it was just a wonderful day.”
