Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 7 Delivers a Surprise Departure (and No, It’s Not Carver)

Heading into Chicago Fire’s seventh episode, we were a little worried about Carver’s future after he was sent home early by Kidd in the previous episode. After a series of incidents throughout the day, Kidd bluntly told him not to come back unless he could pick himself up, leaving fans wondering if his position at 51 was in jeopardy.

Well, those worries didn’t last long as Carver returned to work at the start of the episode and Kidd’s decision to send him home early in the previous episode proved to be the wake-up call he needed to realize that he needed to re-evaluate his priorities. But the change in his priorities wasn’t without consequences.

As Carver struggles to establish boundaries and refocus on his work at 51, it quickly becomes apparent that there’s a rift forming between him and his girlfriend Tori, who has a very different outlook on life.

Throughout the episode, it becomes apparent that the couple may not be as compatible as Carver thought – right?! – as they don’t see eye to eye on many issues. At one point, Carver even expresses the need to focus on his work if he wants to keep his job at 51, and Tori basically brushes it off. She later brings lunch to the fire station and makes some colorful comments reminding Carver to take her out, telling her that he can’t be distracted while working.

When we see the couple again before their next shift, it’s clear that Carver is questioning whether they’re compatible as he confesses that their relationship “seems okay because it’s like home, but maybe that’s not a good thing. Home is a dark, messy place for both of us.” The comment isn’t well received and Tori quickly fires back, telling him that the only thing that’s spoiling things is the fire station that he’s made the center of his life.

She tries to convince Carver to take the day off to spend with her, but she refuses, saying that he needs to go to work but that he’ll see her when his shift is over. Little does he know, that conversation will be their last.

When Carver returns home after work, Tori has cleared her things out of his apartment and is nowhere to be seen, implying that she’s leaving Chicago to return home after realizing that they both want different things in life.

And with that, it looks like Tori has left Chicago and we don’t think she’ll be back after sneaking off during Carver’s shift to avoid saying goodbye in person.

With Tori out of town, one has to wonder what this means for Carver’s future with Violet, who has entered into a relationship that’s quickly getting serious. Who knows what’s going to happen next, but it’s clear that Carver is here to stay and that Tori’s departure will definitely set up some romantic drama in the episodes to come!
