I’m Worried About David Boreanaz’s Jason on SEAL Team Season 7

As SEAL Team season 7 approaches, I’m increasingly worried about David Boreanaz’s Jason Hayes. The CBS military drama has six seasons under its belt, with the seventh and final season scheduled to premiere in August 2024. The series focuses on Bravo Team—a sub-unit of the U.S. Navy’s Special Warfare Development Group—as the Navy’s elite SEALs carry out dangerous missions around the world. The well-developed characters were what I found most appealing about SEAL Team in its first season. That hasn’t changed much over the show’s many iterations.

Jason Hayes, Boreanaz’s lead special warfare commander—aka Bravo 1—is the leader of Bravo Team, which means he takes on a lot of responsibility for his SEALs. That relentless dedication is what makes Jason so easy to root for, though it’s also a trait Boreanaz brings to most of his TV roles. From Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Bones, David Boreanaz’s characters have been dedicated to a fault. Of course, I worry that the character’s unwavering nature is part of the reason Jason Hayes is in trouble on SEAL Team season 7.

SEAL Team will end with its seventh season, which means no one is safe in the upcoming batch of episodes. With season 7 being the show’s final season, it’s likely that Jason Hayes will eventually die in combat after years of living in danger and carrying out life-threatening missions. In some ways, Jason’s death seems like the only “out” for the character. I really can’t imagine the leader of Bravo Team quitting his job otherwise. While it would be a tragic end for the SEAL Team character, a death in the midst of a noble fight seems like an obvious way to wrap up Jason’s story.

There’s no chance of a future continuation of the David Boreanaz character…

If SEAL Team season 7 kills off the main character, the show’s ending would have a more definitive ending. There’s no chance of a future continuation of the David Boreanaz-led show if Paramount+ pursues spinoffs or sequels. However, Jason’s death could be the most emotional and dramatic way to end the show. SEAL Team is great at building tension during action scenes, and a mission that goes awry—or gives Jason the chance to make a sacrificial play—would certainly be memorable.

While I’d be sad to see Jason Hayes go by the time SEAL Team season 7 rolls around, his death seems like the most fitting end to the series. When the show begins, Jason is struggling with the loss of his friend Nate Massey. Despite this, Jason never abandons the mission—even at great personal cost. Given what Jason has sacrificed for his country and his teammates, it seems like he’d leave it all behind on the battlefield. So I’m betting that Boreanaz’s Jason dies in the SEAL Team series finale.
