Kaley Cuoco Reflects on Penny and Hints at Reprising the Iconic Role

Kaley Cuoco will always treasure her time as Penny on The Big Bang Theory. In a recent exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the 38-year-old actress shared fond memories of her role on the beloved CBS sitcom, which aired from 2007 to 2019.

“Playing Penny for 12 years was a defining chapter in my life,” Cuoco reflects. “It really set off my career, and I owe so much to that character, that show, and to Chuck Lorre, the creator. Those were some of the best years of my life and some of the most fun I’ve ever had.”

Cuoco, who starred alongside Jim Parsons, Mayim Bialik, Johnny Galecki, and other castmates, admits she’s open to revisiting her character. When asked if she would reprise her role as Penny, she responded enthusiastically, “I would absolutely reprise that role—100%. I love that character, and I always will.”

The Big Bang Theory captured hearts for 12 seasons, winning 10 Emmy awards along the way. Although the show wrapped in 2019, its legacy continues through spinoffs like Young Sheldon and its latest project, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Additionally, there’s buzz about a new spinoff starring Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, and Lauren Lapkus, which is reportedly in the works for Max.

While Cuoco remains fond of her time on the show, she’s currently focused on her next big project. The actress stars in the second season of Based on a True Story on Peacock, where she plays a realtor who, along with a former tennis star and plumber, dives into America’s obsession with true crime. Cuoco shares her excitement about the show: “Season 2 is even better than season 1. It’s funny, dark, and I’m thrilled about it.”

As for The Big Bang Theory, Cuoco admits that while she is excited to move forward, the door is always open for a Penny return. In the meantime, fans can stream The Big Bang Theory on Max, while Based on a True Story season 2 premieres on Peacock on November 21.
