Young Sheldon Season 7 Explains Georgie’s Disparaging Missy Comment In TBBT
Young Sheldon season 7 explains why Georgie uncharacteristically made a disparaging comment about Missy in The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon may be the headlining character of the prequel, and understandably so, considering his history in the main series, but in recent years, Young Sheldon has also increased its focus on his siblings. As part of its storytelling diversification, the CBS premier comedy/drama has given both Georgie and Missy their respective arcs separate from their ties to their genius brother. Oddly, some of their plots are even more compelling than Sheldon’s.
Georgie and Missy had a transformative year that was capped off in the Young Sheldon season 6 finale. While Georgie learned to be a new father and soon husband, Missy went through a rough rebellion patch, but ultimately decided to redeem herself, as she promised to George. Arguably, the prequel has made Georgie and Missy more exciting characters than Sheldon, primarily because The Big Bang Theory revealed very little about them. This allows the prequel writers to craft the best stories for them instead of simply following the canon, which is mostly the case with their brother.
Young Sheldon Reveals Georgie’s True Perspective Of Missy
Georgie’s description of Missy in The Big Bang Theory wasn’t flattering.
That being said, one of the most controversial revelations about their relationship came from Georgie when he called Missy a “dumb teenager.” In his The Big Bang Theory debut appearance in season 11, ahead of Sheldon and Amy’s wedding, Mary and George’s firstborn talked about what life was like on the heels of their dad’s death. While the socially inept genius was oblivious to what was happening back at home, since he was already in Pasadena, California for his post-graduate studies then, Georgie revealed how his mom and sister coped with the tragedy.
Baby Cece’s dad described Mary as overwhelmed with grief and unable to function. Meanwhile, Missy was being a “dumb teenager.” Considering Georgie’s sweet demeanor in Young Sheldon, it’s difficult to imagine him negatively describing his sister like that. While Young Sheldon has been wasting the pairing, the prequel has also demonstrated a couple of times that they are the most fun tandem in the show. More importantly, they also have a close bond as siblings, further strengthened by Sheldon getting all the attention. This makes it more difficult to believe that Georgie would make a disparaging comment about his sister.
That being said, Young Sheldon season 7, episode 5, “A Frankenstein’s Monster and a Crazy Church Guy,” explains Georgie’s description of Missy in The Big Bang Theory. In the outing, Missy seeks the help of her brother about throwing her first party with Billy. That being said, before she could even fully reveal what she wants, Georgie already assumes that she is pregnant, revealing how she sees her sister — someone who is prone to making careless mistakes, hence a “dumb teenager.” Since George’s death is near, he maintains this perspective moving forward.
How Young Sheldon Season 6 Shaped Georgie’s New Perspective Of Missy
Georgie and Missy went through a lot in Young Sheldon season 6.
In earlier seasons, Young Sheldon used Georgie and Missy’s common feeling of being ignored as a reason for them to bond. At one point, they questioned their intellectual capabilities, considering Sheldon’s superiority in this regard; it was heartbreaking to watch. Those arcs were limited, but they were some of the most interesting subplots in the show, especially as they reinforced Georgie’s heartbreaking comment about the struggles of growing up with a genius brother in The Big Bang Theory season 11.
Somehow, Georgie projected his fears about his daughter on his sister, making her more aware of Missy’s misbehavior.
However, one can pinpoint the shift in Georgie’s perspective of Missy in Young Sheldon season 6. Two things happened during that period. Firstly, Georgie welcomed his first daughter, Cece, which brought out his paternal instincts. Secondly, Missy was at the height of her rebellion. Somehow, Georgie projected his fears about his daughter on his sister, making her more aware of Missy’s misbehavior. Even as George and Mary’s daughter tried to clear her name, it doesn’t appear like Georgie’s opinion of his sister would change.
Georgie’s Spinoff Is Missing Out By Not Bringing Missy Back
Raegan Revord won’t be back as Missy in the Young Sheldon sequel show.
Unfortunately, Missy won’t be in Georgie and Mandy’s Young Sheldon spinoff. While The Big Bang Theory’s canon establishes their connection after George’s death, CBS is excluding the character in the sequel series, although no official reason has been given. It’s uncertain if there’s anything discussed behind the scenes, but Missy actor Raegan Revord revealed that she wasn’t invited to reprise her role as Missy in the offshoot.
Regardless of the reason, this is a big missed opportunity for CBS. Not only is Georgie and Missy a great pair that has been severely underutilized by Young Sheldon, but George and Mary’s only daughter also has so many more stories left to tell. The upcoming endeavor’s storytelling would have greatly benefited from having someone like her in its regular cast.
