Netflix’s Virgin River creator announces new TV series from the same author with ‘fresh twist’

Romance drama Virgin River has been a huge hit on Netflix and the team behind it are working on another series

Roma Roth, the creative force behind Virgin River, is set to bring another of Robyn Carr’s book series to life on screen. The nine-part saga delves into the life of a newcomer in a quaint town, weaving a tale of romance and mystery that promises a unique twist on the genre, distinguishing it from Netflix’s popular show and Carr’s other adapted series, Sullivan’s Crossing.

Entitled Thunder Point, the drama unfolds in a coastal town embroiled in a contentious property dispute.

In contrast to Carr’s previous works, this series centres around Hank Cooper, a man who arrives for a friend’s funeral only to find he has inherited a beachfront property that lies at the heart of the local conflict.

As Hank becomes increasingly entangled in the town’s affairs, he also finds himself captivated by Sarah Dupre, a compelling and enigmatic local. Having already helmed adaptations of both Virgin River and Sullivan’s Crossing for CTV and The CW, Roth is no stranger to translating Carr’s narratives to television.

However, the platform for Thunder Point’s debut remains under wraps. Roth expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating: “Thunder Point has drama, mystery, and romance, all the ingredients you need to successfully build a global hit series.

“It is certain to appeal to fans of both Sullivan’s Crossing and Virgin River but this time the story is told from a male perspective”, reports the Daily Record.

“We are beyond excited to be continuing our incredibly successful run with best-selling author Robyn Carr.”

Carr herself shared her excitement: “I’m so thrilled that Roma will be producing Thunder Point.

“She did such an exceptional job with her previous adaptations of my work, and I just can’t wait to see who she casts for this fan favorite small-town series.

“Roma is a gifted artist whose creative eye is a joy for viewers! Brava, Roma.”

Robyn Carr, the acclaimed author behind more than 60 novels, saw her most recent book, The Friendship Club, land on bookshelves this past January.

In related news, Virgin River has made waves by announcing its seventh season, a full two months before the sixth season is set to premiere.

The hit Netflix show, which stars Alexandra Breckenridge as nurse practitioner Mel Monroe and Martin Henderson as former Marine Jack Sheridan, follows Mel as she moves to Virgin River after a personal loss and finds love in the quaint town.

With its latest extension, Virgin River secures its place as Netflix’s longest-running ongoing drama and the platform’s longest English-language scripted series to date.
